every time the sales person goes to the back to check with the manager , he's gone for a smoke or coffee break .......

doubt it ? just head for the exit door after waiting 5 minutes ... he'll come running after you ( usually with the coffee in his hand )....

any sales person that says " I'm here to get the best deal for you" is lying ... just ask who signs his paycheck....

only 95% crooks ? I'd agree, you're a bit low on the figure ....

how do you bury a car salesman? with a corkscrew....

When I buy a vehicle I pull right up in front, leave my car running, and tell the sales person to go get the finance manager and come to me, no back and forth crap. I never test drive the one I'm buying because they then think they have you. I have test driven enough to know what I want.

Longest it's ever taken me to walk in and walk out with the vehicle I want is 45 minutes. Just bought my 26th vehicle this way a few months ago. Next purchase is coming this month.

By the way I walk out all the time. Last vehicle I bought the first sales guy wanted to low ball my trade be $5500 and only knock $80 off the new ones sticker. I was ready to give that his a trip to the dentist. I just got up and walked out. He was chasing me out the door. I told him he had one chance to make a easy deal but he chose to be a douce.

My wife and I had an interesting car buying experience a few month's ago. We owned a 2011 Jetta TDI. I said to her lets see if we can trade for the same money per month. Long story short we said no to their deals 5 times before we came home with a new 2014 Jetta TDI. We didn't really care if we got a new car or not and it sure helped with our negotiations.

killer for them ...

make out 5 identical papers for the same vehicle ( same options/ color/etc ) with your name and phone number on it ...

hand it to the sales person , tell him sharpen his pencil , give it his best price and call you by ( pick a date) ... and that you are going to X number of dealers , best price gets your business, no call backs to see if they will match the deal. Then leave. ... no chit chat.

when they call, ask the final price and tell them you are still waiting for the other offers and will call them back only IF they were the best price, then hang up. After all have called ( or the ones interested ) go down to the lowest price one and deal... but if they start adding on "extras" simply get up and walk out without any explanation.

I just had a good one. Saw a 99 f250 on a lot. Very similar truck to mine besides the 99 was 4 door. I hopped out and noticed it was an early 99 which I was not really interested in but here comes this woman running out to sell it to me. She explains this is the best truck in the world and is fully serviced equipped with the legendary 7.3. I asked if it had any maintenance which it didn't because "nobody keeps those but my husband is a certified 7.3 mechanic and it's perfect". Well ok do you have compression numbers or anything else to tell me how perfect it is? "no, but this truck has never been chipped" Hmm ok original transmission? Any updates been done to it? "all original why would it needs updates?" I crawl under and it had at least 1" of undercoating. I could see heavy pan rust bubbling up undercoating and it had a leaking oil cooler. I made the mistake of asking what they wanted for it. "$19,500" she could see the look of confusion so she again informed me it had a legendary 7.3. I then told her my red extended cab 2001 right next to it was $9,500. She looked at my truck told me it is not as nice as that one and she could tell it had severe wreck damage. I laughed in her face since I am second owner and I have know it's history personally. (my truck was far better) her response was "well this is a four door" so its $10000 for a half door more? still laughing at her I got in mine and left. She reminded me why I always do private sales.

One thing important to remember is the salesman has seen all the tricks in the book from buyers. Say you come in and say your not trading in your vehicle, work out a price for the new vehicle and then say "by the way I am trading in my old vehicle". Its not like the salesman smacks himself on the forehead and says "I've never seen that one before". Give them a little respect too.

Also keep in mind they know once you walk out the door you probably aren't going to buy a vehicle from them. Most of the time they can read you and know if they should let you leave or not.

When I was in my 20's I was always amazed at the lack of respect I got when walking in to buy a car. Did I look poor or something? Now that I'm in my 50's if I walk in with my wife to buy I get plenty of respect, it must be an age thing.

I just think you all should prefix your replies with your own occupation. Then let the fun begin. At my age, I've experienced some of the greatest, kindest, dumbest, smartest, bravest, stupidest and idiotic men and women ever created, including myself.

So, tell us what you do for a living, I'll compare it to my personal inventory of candidates for Medal of Honor and Darwin Awards.

Don't be shy, 1/2 of all of us are below average... (That's a math joke, get it ???)

I'm not sure how old Chris (Diamondpilot) is, but I know he's considerably younger than I, but this got me to thinking, and if you don't count the 2 motorhomes, 4 motorcycles, and the motorscooter and 1 car and 1 pickup I bought for teenage daughters, I've owned about 32 cars and pickups.
