Re: Dam Dear Flys look like a delta wing jet
We have a very hardy crop of deer flies here in Maine. Although there are several varieties of biting airborne monstahs that are lumped into a group and called either Deer, Horse, or Moose flies depending on size. I have noticed that they attack the car as soon as you pull into the drive, but strangely, when I'm mowing or on the tractor, they seem to leave me alone. At least enough for me to drive a straight line.
Aside from swatting (which has its own drawbacks) I've heard of an adhesive patch that you can attach to the back of your baseball cap. Since the back of the head tends to be a popular landing zone for these critters, they end up stuck to the thing. I haven't tried one yet, but as the summer continues, I just might.
Another thing that I have tried is a cap with a back flap or sun shield. The one I have is impregnated with Buzz-Off and does a pretty good job of keeping them off your face and neck. They look a little goofy, but heck, it beats giving blood.
