I'm considering a 80" by 144" (about 7' x 12') plan with four posts. I was wondering, should I use 3 posts with the 12' width or is one post on either end enough? If 3 posts are better I might go with a 16' width.

Best to go with three posts. You'll always find a need for the extra room.

Thanks for the link ... those will help egnerate some more ideas.

I got rained out yesterday, but bought 3 12'x4x4s and 3 10'x4x4s for posts. I'm going with 16'x8' with a foot or so overhang in the back.

Any recommendations for the top plates (girts)? I could use 2 16' 4x4s or 4 8' 4x4s, 2 2x4s slapped together, or tack on 2x4s on the front and back of the posts .....

I'd use 2x4's on top of the posts for the walled sides. Will be easier to nail and just as strong as long as the posts aren't too far apart. What are you going to use to span the front? Is that a 16' clear span?

It's a 16' span across the front and back, but with center posts. Basically there is 8' between posts in all directions. I am not sure what I am going to use to span the front and back; I am leaning towards using two 16' 4x4s.

I have all the posts set and plumbed up and will be laying concrete tonight, ready to start framing in the roof by the weekend. I have quite a few more pictures of my progress, I just haven't had a chance to upload them. Look for pics tonight.

Here is one of maybe two nice holes I was able to dig. Of course, it took me 4-5 holes to figure out the right way to dig.
