David Brown PTO output shaft broke! Sheesh...

Looking at that picture, it was cracked for a long time. The break is actually just a little under 1/3 of the shaft itself and you can see, the other 2/3rds are rusty indicating a previous crack, probably a while ago.

If it wasn't cracked to begin with, the shear bolt probably would have sheared.

From the looks of her, she never sees a shed.

Just like the axles on the IHC 300 that broke for us - you can see the rust line in the crack, where it was crystalized & cracked for a long time. The metal production/ quenching didn't take right. You didn't have much metal holding that together for some time.

To the original poster. once you get it back together.. make sure you use the right grade shear pin.. not that this was the issue.. but you want to start back off on the right foot so to speak.
