Daylight Saving Time

   / Daylight Saving Time #11
I'm surprised most of the posts here are to get rid of it.

Personally, I like DST. Starting today, (first work day back on standard time), by time I get out of the office and get set up to do anything outside it's already getting dark. Forget doing most anything in a couple months. The main thing I like about going back to standard time is so the kids going out for school aren't doing so in the dark. Many of the kids around here need to walk down the road to get to a bus stop and I never liked them doing it while dark.

Interesting point. I talked to an aqauintance from India. He said they changed the time the kids went to school. Apparently part of the year they go like from 8am-2pm, and then switch to 9am-3pm as it is dark later in the morning.

Daylight savings time is no good.

Who wants it to be dark when they get home from their daytime job?

Time to go buy some work lights. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

OK, I'm running on only 2 hours sleep, /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif but isn't DST when the sun is out the extra hour in the evening?
Whichever it is, (except the school issue), I want light in the evening.

Does anyone remember this. For some reason I think I recall it being called double daylight savings time.

This experiment worked, but Congress did not continue the experiment in 1975 because of opposition -- mostly from the farming states.

On January 4, 1974, President Nixon signed into law the Daylight Saving Time Energy Act of 1973. Then, beginning on January 6, 1974, implementing the Daylight Saving Time Energy Act, clocks were set ahead for a fifteen-month period through April 27, 1975. )</font>

The lil woman and I were just talking about this and agreed they should set it so it doesn't get dark before 7 pm in the winter and 9pm in the summer here in Bama /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and leave it. We hate it being dark when we get home from work.... As kids we always walked to bus stop in darkness of some level... as we had to ride the bus 45min to school... never bothered us and the kids in the city had street lights.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We called em whimps for it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif U know how kids are /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I realy whish they'ed just pick one and stick to it.... you would think by now all clocks would adjust them self... It's feature most of us would buy for a few bucks... Then again who am I kidding? They don't even know how to put in a capacitive ckt/lithuim battery to maintane the time in clock's,microwaves and stove tops.....O' and VCR'S /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

personly I always thought it was silly... There is and hopefully always be the same # of hrs of daylight and dark regardless of how we measure it.... So why complicate it...

I have always preferred daylight savings time. I much prefer to have the extra hour of daylight when I get home from work than before I go to work.
I remember the 2 years in the 70s when we had DST year round. Most of the complaints around here were from parents not liking the kids leaving for school before daylight.

I was one of those kids.........Had to ride my bike through a cemetary to get to school(no really, it was a short cut that took almost a mile off the route) /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I wasn't the skidish sort but was afraid of those crazy old farts driving the cemetary vehicles flying down the dark narrow roads. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
