Dead Short in Battery, Again

/ Dead Short in Battery, Again #21
Speaking of dead batteries, Tuesday, I clicked the unlock on the remote for my 2010 Silverado, and the locks did not pop up. Uh, oh, I thought, the battery in my remote must be dead... NO... not so lucky. The battery in the truck measured right at 4 volts. After hunting around for a battery at several places.. I guess group 48 batteries are not super common or something as a lot of them said "sold my last one yesterday".. There are two battery trays on this truck, and of course they use the one up on the firewall that you have to remove 2 brackets and stand on your tippy toes to tilt the battery to get it out. My truck is gas powered, so the convenient battery tray up front is unused. But anyway, went with a wal mart brand and the truck is running fine.

But now you'll be good to go through, what they're predicting to be, another nasty winter.

Hopefully so. It sure is cool here today.

I have always had pretty good luck with Walmart batteries. They last 4-5 years in my vehicles which is on par with other brands and they are usually cheaper.

yeah, I think they are kind of a middle of the road battery, I had one lasted 10 years once, but that is not typical. Most seem to go 4 to 5 years at best, but that is what most seem to do.

I had the "new" battery checked at another auto parts place, they said it was good . With this battery reading 12.7 volts still nothing, jumping this battery it would turn over very slowly. I pulled the starter, rebuilder said brushes and all looked good, said it could be the solenoid but he doubted it. Paid the $70 for the solenoid, put it on and it started. Charging voltage @start was 14.3, at idle 14.3, high rpm was 14.35, with lights on 14.25. Shut it down and voltage dropped to 13.2. Disconnected ground cable and checked amps on 10 amp scale between the ground post and ground cable and it was .25. It was getting dark on me so left grnd cable disconnected.

250ma is around what a relay takes. Pull fuses and relays until the draw disappears, then you have narrowed the problem down to a single circuit.
