That is certainly good advice. Even at the Kubota dealership that I am very fond of, there is one sales guy who just wasn't very helpful or knowledgeable and seemed very disinterested in me (a tractor newbie with cash in his hands). If he'd been my first or only contact at that dealership I would not have purchased there at any price. Fortunately, I'd already met and established a relationship with another sales guy who was just excellent. He answered all my questions and followed up all my calls and stupid questions and eventually gave me the best price in the region. All without being too pushy.

All that is just to say that one bad apple can ruin the whole batch, but if you are interested in that dealership, take MarkV's advice and make sure that one guys was just one bad apple in an otherwise good batch.

You all have good suggestions. I myself wondered if the owner might feel differently. So, I'll keep your ideas in mind. One thing, though, is that I have ALREADY given them a second chance. I did that by going in there the other day, hat in hand, wanting to talk to them about other tractor-related business. I've never seen the owner in there, but I will say I am reticent to go in there at all now, because I don't really want to have any more conversations with the sales guy.

I have also reconsidered something else. I drove by this morning, as I do every morning, on the way to work. I thought I saw a Kubota in their service yard. I slowed down. It was a smaller Agco. They are also orange. So, maybe what I thought was a Kubota before was not, and they just don't like to work on Kubotas for some reason. Its possible, I guess, although I can't see why as they seem to work on many other brands.

Thanks for everyone's input.

There's no way to completely convey the tone of the conversation on an internet forum. You had to be there. You also have to know how friendly this guy was to me when I was there last year looking for parts, and this spring, looking for a tractor, as compared to the other day, when he was NOT glad to see me. He made it obvious. He didn't chase me out, or scream at me, or swear at me. But, you can be rude without any of that. If that doesn't make sense, then I am not sure what else I can see. It seemed "a little" rude. I think it was intended to be.

#1) Buy the parts manual AND the service manual on each piece of equipment you have
#2) Study each until you KNOW what typically has to be done to service each properly
#3) Buy the materials you need to service it
#4) Do it yourself...-OR- if unable to do it yourself ( physically unable..or ??) find a mechanic that has the tools and will come to your home and do the labor for you! Be willing to PAY HIM IN CASH!

You can find as good as or BETTER people for a LOT LESS per hour $$ than any dealer is going to charge you!!!

Based on the couple of conversations you had with this particular salesman that you've conveyed here in this thread, I'd say to just stay away from that dealership. He definitely seems to have had an attitude towards you and your decision, and really does seem to be a poor sport. There's nothing worse than a salesman that is a sore loser.

There are plenty of good salesmen out there that understand that they cannot offer the best product to every single potential customer that walks in the door. Those are the guys that deserve another chance when you are looking for something else down the road. This guy does not deserve another chance.

If the owner actually cares about potential future business with you and is curious as to why you bought orange, he can always stroll over one day while you are out working with your Kubota and ask you why you chose it. Until he does that, then figure he really doesn't care why you bought orange and that you may need additional implements in the future. Any true tractor lover likes to check out tractors, regardless of the color, and regardless of which ones they may sell or own. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif And a good salesman always likes to check out the competition.
