Dealer Pricing Question

   / Dealer Pricing Question #21
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the advice. I think I probably will ask dealer B to match, but I'm not going to be a jerk about it. If he can't or won't, that's fine. Dealer A is still a perfectly fine dealership, so If I end up with them, it'll be alright.

I have no doubt you will go about it with class. If the dealer is classy he will appreciate you giving him the opportunity to do business. Let them know you enjoyed working with them and want to be a customer of theirs.

Even if they don't match the other dealer exactly it may still be worth extra to use them. Just don't know if it is worth $1,600 extra. Only you can decide that.

EDIT - Let us know the outcome and how you like your new tractor.

And dealer B may meet you part of the way. You could still have $800 to $1000.

I would easily pay $1600 more for a dealer I like and trust

I do not like to play the negotiation game. I went into a local dealer to ask about the price of a three point dump box that I knew had been on is lot for almost a year. He gave me the price. I just asked the simple question "Do you have any wiggle room in the price". I received a lecture about "do you negotiate your prices at the grocery store?" I thanked him for his time and never walked into his place again.

My father worked at a dealership for right at 30 years selling used and new tractors. The owner of the company taught him how to trade and deal with people. He had a lot of wisdom. One of his sayings was "always be happy in your trade". Don't mean that you shouldn't try to get the best deal possible but in the end be happy with what you did. I've tried to follow the same rule. Seems like some folks are never happy in their trade.

Depends if $1,600 is 1%, 5% or 10% of the deal. But like I said to the OP, only he can decide what it is worth. I just don't see any problem with asking to match a deal or negotiating a price on a major purchase. The dealer has the right to say no and you still have the right to pay asking price.

I'd have done the same, but the answer back is I don't buy used groceries and even new groceries get discounted when near expiration date.

They aren't called "dealers" for no reason either.
