When it comes to implements showroom condition is going to have some paint scuffs and scratches. It is going to be an exception that there isn't some kind of shipping injury to the finish. Perfect show quality implements just doesn't happen, unless the dealer will disassemble sandblast and repaint and decal stuff. It is going to be touched up at best.

A dealer should touch it up if it has scratches and to be honest if it dont look like it does in a showroom then in my opinion they should do away with the show room because it is obvious what you see in the show room is not real life and is a poor representation and is misleading to the customer what you get. I understand that they will be a scratch or two from shipping but it's the dealers job to inspect and touch up as necessary. I mean really where do you draw the line of an acceptable scratch or not? I have bought allot of new trucks and equipment over the year and I expect just that new and in excellent condition. I never will forget in the late 90's I bought a new diesel truck and it got hit in a hale storm before i even made the first payment. I took it to a Chevrolet dealer to get repaired and he assured me it would look like the day I bought it. Well three months later I still had no truck and it had went back to dealer four times. The owner got smart with me and said is this a truck or a cadillac? Lets just say I went off the deep end on him and me and all my family buy our new Chevrolet products at another dealer now. The last time it came back it lasted a month before the clear coat started pilling off. I traded it off on a new Dodge Cummins.

I'm sorry that this amuses me. But, oh no, not the concrete floor. Let me start by saying I spent 12 yrs of my career as a equipment dealer mechanic. I have a few points to make. The dealer likely made less than $150 on that spreader, to think that he wants his mechanics spending half a day assembling and repainting that spreader is silly. I've put together a few broadcast spreaders like that. They come in a large cardboard box and there are typically spots where during shipping the implement got its paint rubbed off. If it was bad enough, we would try to touch it up, but don't expect a body shop type paint job. This practice along with assembling on the heinous concrete floor is common practice, to use this as barometer of your dealers quality is another absurdity. If it really bothers you let the dealer know, we knew which customers needed extra attention to things that 99% of our customers didn't. If this is the kind of attention you will demand of your dealer, expect future pricing to reflect that. The other option is to take delivery of implements unassembled and do it yourself, then you can be as meticulous as you want, and be sure to order the matching paint at the same time.

I restore farm equipment to semi-show quality and paint over powdercoat is a no go. either one or the other. you can't paint over powdercoat. their attempt at hiding damage is only going to cause more rust down the road. dealer said bring it back.

my opinion of dealers comes from years of delivering JD equipment on a flatbed and dealing with people barely above literate trying to unload it. most of the salesmen I've met remind me of used car salesmen and the mechanics I've met aren't much better. watched one drop a new 1590 grain drill off a forklift once. the stories I could tell.

about a month ago I ordered a new one of these

<img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=324265"/>

it just came in yesterday, when I got to the dealer to pick it up the mechanic was putting it together on the concrete shop floor. as a mechanic myself, I found this odd, I generally take more care with my own equipment. I put together a tiller they sold my dad with a piece of cardboard on my own shop floor. I got the spreader home and upon hooking it up I found the tube frame badly scratched, some of it badly spraypainted over with runs and bare metal showing. I find it hard to believe it came from the factory like that. nearly $1500 spreader which will rust in no time. I was running behind since the thing took a month to arrive and had to spread lime and fertilizer the minute I got it home.

I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. the spreader will be going back one way or another. I noticed they were putting together another one on the shop floor beside it and I don't want that one as a replacement either. I had planned on spending about $85,000 on green tractors in the next few years and this wasn't a great first impression. if this is the type of people who work at Deere dealers then I don't want them anywhere near my tractors.

Im a dealer and I spend time touching up every peice of frontier, and JD equipment. I wouldnt blast your dealer over the internet and give them a bad name for a product that he received from the manufacturer in what I would say is less than perfect condition. Always remember your dealer is who really stands behind you and your product when you need them. Not too smart to bad mouth them on the web.

there are half a dozen dealers within driving distance, you guys act like I should be lucky to have the privilege of buying stuff at the closest one. I have spent a whopping $3k in new equipment there in my life, they hardly care about me.

they took it back and offered me another one that was even more damaged and rusty as a replacement, I declined. looks like I'll end up getting a refund and buying one at another dealer.

Hopefully one of the other 5 will be able to give you the type of satisfaction you are looking for. I'd make sure to tell them this story first so they know your expectations.
