I sent my B3000 to the dealer I have been using for 20 years for a "Pre-Season" tune-up.

I also asked them to check the PTO safety switch as it has been erratic.

They checked it said it did need to be replaced. (No Surprise).

But when they delivered my tractor back to me today, I immediately discovered some damage.

In order to get access to the PTO safety switch, I assume they have to remove the Plastic Cover/Cowling that fits over the PTO engagement Lever and Speed selection levers.

The mechanic managed to crack that plastic cowling... BIG TIME ! He must have used a LOT of force. (See Pic)

As bad as the damage is, there is no way the mechanic didn't know he did it when it happened.

I guess he was hoping I wouldn't notice.... but he was wrong.

I called the dealer and they agreed to pick the tractor back up and make the repairs, but I am pissed and disappointed that this occurred.

Same type of mechanic who puts the filters on at the factory. I’m glad they are picking it up and fixing it for you.

Okay, the mechanic is a gorilla. Be thankful the dealer stands behind the work. Not all would. You've got a good one.

True. Be glad they are coming good for it. But it's not over yet. I hear stories like that almost daily from friends that work at dealerships. Actually, a lot is expected from mechanics. Like somehow knowing how to repair or even just take apart virtually anything that is put in front of them.

Yes, I do appreciate the fact they are willing to man up and fix it.

That's why I've been using them for 20 years.......

I can appreciate the fact that the Mechanics are under a lot of pressure to get the job done, and done as fast as possible.

I probably would have just bit the bullet if the damage wasn't so severe. I've looked the other way many times when something they were supposed to do is not done, or done improperly.

I will usually try to correct things myself... but this time, I can't fix it.

Plastic on tractors is a BAD idea,.....but it's cheap !!!

Cheap plastic is BAD. High quality appropriate plastic can be a good thing. Astounds me that they can make virtually unbreakable plasic packaging, but cheap on on stuff that matters.

True. The Plastic cover/cowel seems to be pretty sturdy.

It's odd that on the work order receipt, they said in order to replace the PTO safety switch, they removed the Seat and the Wheel.

Does that sound correct?

It doesn't mention removing the lever cover, but who knows. It's also possible that the Mechanic lost his balance and grabbed that piece of plastic to steady himself.
