Possible it wasn't the guy that worked on it but maybe the delivery driver?

Yes, as far as I can see, no reason to remove that cover. So yes, it is possible someone else (delivery guy) broke it.

Whoever broke it had to have known they did it.

I was waiting for somebody to get there. Possibly used it as a tie down point?

Anything is possible. But that plastic cover is located over the control levers INSIDE the cab.

I'm stymied how the damage was done. The plastic is surprisingly sturdy as plastics go......

Maybe someone grabbed it climbing in and out of the cab, or dropped/snagged the seat on it when they removed the seat to work on the safety switch?

Anyone have any tips/hints on the best/easiest way to remove the Rubber Ends on those control levers.

If I replace the cover myself, it looks like the hardest part is going to be removing those Rubber ends on the levers.

Do they just pull off? Do they need to be heated? Use a putty knife to try to loosen them up?

I don't want to damage them and add to the problem.

Funny how those handles come off when you don't want and are semingly impossible to get off when you do.

Agreed! I imagine that if I warm them up a little, they would slide off.

I was wondering if that mechanic had previous success with warm plastic and tried to do that in a colder environment. Can make all the difference depending on the plastic. Just can't believe he wouldn't go to his boss and fess up.

Those rubber covers on the ends of the levers do pull off.
Pull up firmly, and try to wiggle the cover a bit at the same time.
Might even try some liquid soap on a thin scrap of sheet metal, and drive it up under each side of the rubber lever cover.

I agree. The dealer could have told me to go pound sand.

If he were to offer to give me the part.... I'd be happy to install it myself. I don't think it's too awfully hard.

No, he was NOT in any position to tell you to go pound sand. There is small claims court. He has no choice but to replace it 100% at his expense (if you stand your ground.) It is ALWAYS good to see you stick with a dealer of 20-plus years and I'd bet they simply will make it right. I've seen dealers try to charge for transport costs/charges in similar situations & hopefully he will not do that. By now you must be on a conversational basis with him. Have you asked "How in **** did you do that and why did you give it back to me damaged?" VERY reasonable questions.
