You’re technically supposed to pay the tax in your state, but... Unless you have a tax exempt form for farm use but in that case it wouldn’t matter if it was out of state or not.

I know it's apples and oranges but I was just thinking the other day as I was writing a check to the county I live in for a little over 5k for property taxes and personal tangible property taxes for land that's been in my family for over 100 years and some equipment that I have had for a long time, and I was thinking this is some bull It's kind of like a man is being penalized for trying to have something, I believe I'd try the no tax route I will guarantee you that they will get you some other way.

^^ At risk of getting this thread whisked away to the cornfield ... the place to address those concerns and seek a resolution is at the ballot box.

They will get you one way or the other. There is no "resolution". Doesn't matter were you live, they will find a way to take as much of you're money as possible.. MA was the worst for me.. Same size property taxes as mine here in ME would cost $7000 in taxes, I pay $800..

Yeah, good luck with that. The real options that you have is keep paying it or sell it all and join some of the rest of the do nothings , thing is most people who have worked hard to accumulate things have to much pride to give it up and we pay, that's the only reason I was saying to the OP that I might consider the no tax route as they are definitely going to get you some other way, alright I vented a little.:D

WA has a form you fill out at point purchase if you are from a out of state. You have to prove out of state residence (usually driver license) and then you escape the WA sales tax. If you buy in another state and pay their sales tax it does not negate being obligated for the WA tax. That is double taxation but "buyer beware" ignorance of the law does not exempt you from it. Most WA retailers only mess with the exemption on large purchases.

Not sure about the relationship between WA and BC over this. Never made any large purchases up there. I will have to ask my daughter who lives in BC how that works for them. Canadians buy a lot of stuff down here. I know the have to pay the customs duty if over their trip allowance for duty free.

Help me here, there are five states who don't have a state sales tax based upon internet search. Delaware being one and about twenty years ago was travel through there lots of ads on buying there to save paying sales tax. No doubt those who live near the state line might do large buying there. At same time my state, South Carolina, did have lower taxes on tobacco and gas and many tourist would fill up on cigarettes before leaving. Many also filled their gas tanks.

As has been said, the OP ought to see if he qualifies for his tractor purchase to be tax exempt. At least in SC it has to be used in Farming and or I think Forestry or Fishing in a commercial operation that files taxes. I may be wrong but think in SC sale between private parties on a tractor is not taxed. Again if not mistaken sales tax is collected on a vehicle.
