Think I read a comparison on sliding miter saws a while ago. The Dewalt was considered one of the best.

I've got a Delta Sidekick 10 in. that comes with an attached foldable stand. It has served me well.

Hey Egon
This might be an opportunity for us. When Higgy's bride finds out that he has been smuggling tools, she might be having a tool sale /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. We might make out like bandits /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I can see you guys have been looking at things wrong. It's all about perspective. Ya'll have been looking at it from one and not considering that your lovely bride might see it from another.

I suggest helping her a little in the understanding department. I you're understanding her not understanding and allow for it, well, er, uh, an understanding that's beneficial to you both can be reached.

1. It's a tool. It's not a toy.

There's a big difference between tools and toys. The biggest difference is the former is an investment and latter is naught but an expense. Tools are for work. Tools are necessary. Tools enable one to do work and be compensated for it.

2. It's not for me. It's for you and the family. It's about being a man and a father, a husband, caretaker, caregiver, figurehead of the family.

3. It's nonnegotiable. Once you get into the negotiating you as a man are at a severe disadvantage. You're an amateur dealing with not only a professional but one that's genetically gifted and trained from birth.

4. Higgy only needs to point out the disadvantages to the family if he was injured attempting to cut beams with anything less than the proper equipment. Mentioning the time he could be with the family instead of risking life and limb doing that extra work that enable the family to have financial advantages without good tools.

No. It's all about perspective. It isn't something just for you. It's for her and the kids. It's about sacrifice. It's about love. It's a lesson for the kids, doing the right thing the right way with the right tools. Your duty as a father demands it.

Harv,

My wife would just look at me with those all knowing eyes and say, how dumb do you really think I am? She knows tools are toys.

My wife knows it enough that I know that she knows it. That is why I checked on her truck bed cover (hard) with lids BEFORE bringing up the welder that I want to "invest" in. She aint dumb and I am not stupid enough to bring up something that I want BEFORE getting her something she has wanted for a bit now.

Man that saw is dirty Egon. You must use it or something. I guess since you're snowed in 10 months out of the year, you kind of have to have an indoor hobby. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mmmm, nail guns. That subject has already been beaten to death, but I loved every minute of it. Think I'm going to get the Porter Cable round headed framing nailer, but I'm not for certain. Gonna use round head nails though.

I think Muhammad's thread has been officially hijacked. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Good thing he's got a sense of humor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Kind of funny, he posts about some good deals on tools, a bunch of folks recommend different brands, I ask about the table saw for my project, Wharv posts a pic with the largest saw in the world, Higgy goes and buys one too, and then mentions nail guns. Oh, and Egon posts a pic of his sliding miter saw like he's a proud parent. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I love this place. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Actually my wife is one of the most supportive people that I know, especially with tools for work.

I told her today that I had ordered the saw, she said "Its about time, you have been wanting that saw for years, and I was getting tired of hearing about it".

Good wife and a heck of a person, I am lucky.

For fathers day 5 years ago I came home from a trip and went into the garage. To my supprize was a new dust system, 8" joiner and a 15" planer. Nice.

If the tool is for work I can do almost anything, but, her projects always come first. This year it is a new house for the family, dug the foundation this weekend.

As I am building this on my own time it will be a slow project, but i will post pics if other would be interested.

Have a good week, I am off to Fl again for the week.
