Some of you may remember that I found this Dearborn Disc Plow a while back. I said I'd post some pictures when I got a chance to try it out, so I'm posting a couple now. I used it a few weeks ago at our big garden spot, but didn't get any pictures. I broke up the small garden at our house and decided to take a picture this time. First the plow to refresh your memory. I had never seen one before I bought this one.

Now the result. It took a little fiddling to get it set right, but it plows great now.

It should be good in ground with roots and stuff. You can see in the picture, I snagged one of the landscape timbers bordering the garden and split it in half the full length of the 8 ft. timber:D

That looks like a very nice unit. The only time I recall seeing a disc plow in operation was back in the 50's (I was just a kid!) when we were tilling some freshly cleared land for the first time. You are right, they do a good job with roots, etc.

That's a nice looking outfit and a nice result. What type & size tractor are you using?

Looks like the soil you tilled was kind of sandy. I wonder how a setup like that would work here were we have clay-loam.

Thanks for the positive comments. I do like this plow, and it doesn't hurt that I picked it up for $80 :D

Barneyhunts, it's a Mahindra 3510. When the plow was not set up right, it was pulling it sideways and not running in the furrow, but since I got the plow set up better, I can pull it in mid range in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Nice video. How is the actual disc on that thing different then a blade on a disk harrow?

The discs are bigger, heavier, and set at a much more aggressive angle than on a disc harrow.

I read your add, now i also have the same plow and am having trouble with it pulling the front of the tractor around . how do adjust it to stop doing this ? thinks for any help. oh i'm pulling it with a 50hp long tractor .

Weight on the front of the tractor would likely help as would taking smaller bites and making multiple passes.

I've seen those plows at auctions around here but never saw one in use. It looks like it does a great job. Are there any downsides to these plows or maybe they're just difficult to pull??

My Dad had one (2 pans) to plow new ground with and pulled it with an 8N Ford and later with an 861. I guess it all depends on how deep you are cutting with it as to how hard it will pull. In the video, it looks like the little Farmall Cub is clicking along without a problem with the single pan plow and cutting about 6-8" deep

I too have seen them used and with smaller tractors than mine. i have used it with pulling the frontend over but other times it's really bad. But thanks

Looking at that plow it looks as though it can be slid one way or the other on the toolbar arrangement it mounts to. If you slide it one way or the other it will change the pulling on the front end.
