Debit vs. Credit Cards

That reminds me of opening a savings account to get a toaster.

Remember those days? :)
Must be before my time. I suspect I am younger than most people here think
Never a toaster, but I vaguely remember some banks offering some sort of gimmick when you opened an account, most likely with some minimum balance. This was a loong time ago, 50+ years ago anyway. I might have gotten something like that when I was first out on my own, but don't remember what or even for sure if.

Pretty sure you can set up payments through your bank and go in each month and select which bills to pay. Just click and it goes.

My wife is old-school finance. Has worked for the same financial institution for 40+ years. She just started paying bills electronically about a year ago. Otherwise, it was checks through the mail.

If she can make the justification for on-line bill paying, so can you. ;)
I still mostly pay bills via check in the mail, occasionally if it's getting close to due date I'll do an electronic transfer. Why? Mostly inertia I guess. I'm over 70, I'm entitled to be old school if I want. :ROFLMAO:

No autopay. I generally only keep a minimal amount in my checking account, don't transfer until I'm about to pay bills. Not always easy to remember I need to have $$ in my account on a certain date.

That has to be the grossest facial accessory of all time. Went out with a bunch of people for NY eve and the hostess had one of those. An otherwise extremely beautiful young lady with…..the hog ring.
I don't get body (especially facial) piercings either. Seems like it's gotta be uncomfortable.
Seems to have largely gone out of fashion now in favor of extensive tattoos. Not really my thing either, but I'm glad we live in a time where you can be weird and not be hassled for it.

I have tattoos but they are covered with clothing. Except when Hay Dude hits the beach or the gym.

Certain transactions cannot be done via CC (or at least certain CC's) whereas they'll take a debit card. For instance Costco, they don't take Mastercard, so if that's all you carry the only option is cash/check/debit card. Marijuana sales too (legal, from a dispensary), can't buy that with a credit card, only cash or debit card.

Yup me too, I got ink. Not crazy stuff like on my face tho!

We were out a while ago and a very large woman showing way too much up top had the worst overdone ink I have ever seen across both her b___bs. It was truly disgusting and worst of all if you read what it said, you’d be staring at her b__bs! 🤣

Back in 2012 -2013 I had the job of interviewing over 62 people to work for us, and they signed an agreement that we could look up their police records.
Most of the ones with tattoos on their knuckles just walked away, (ALMOST) all the ones with tattoos on their necks ect had enough on the record that they weren't hired.
Total was about 28 that had the tats.
Out of all those only 4 were hired.... Sad...
How did those 4 work out?

The real question is "was it still readable?"

My wife got one at the age of 71 (on her wrist so it's not hidden unless she's wearing long sleeves), she and her sister got them the same time as some spur of the moment "sisters" thing. I was a bit surprised considering she told me when we first met that she's glad I didn't have any as it would have been a deal killer.

Maybe that was the point? :ROFLMAO:
Or was it an arrow pointing up with the message my eyes are up here!! :ROFLMAO:

They were great employees, one stayed for 5 years, the rest until we closed the doors.
They still call me on holidays with greetings.

No! It was really bad green ink in cursive.
If you tried to read it, you were caught red-handed ! 🤣

Marijuana sales too (legal, from a dispensary)
I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but this oft repeated lie needs to be addressed. As of this posting, marijuana is still illegal in all states and territories. It is a Federal schedule 1 drug.

I agree, it’s long past time that it was addressed. This was posted in another thread…
I agree. BUT the situation that I am in, being in a rural area, means that dialing 911 might not get an immediate response like it would in a large city. We have a great, dedicated, and hard working sheriffs department but they are spread thinly across the county. And the meth is flowing into the area in unbelievable amounts.

I started packing a pistol about fifteen-twenty years ago after bush hogging a field on a secluded farm and noticing that several pickup trucks were burning the road up that split the farm. A couple weeks later an acquaintance mentioned that I had a lot of balls mowing down so-and-so's pot patch.

UH-OH !!!!

I knew some guys I worked with had done the same thing playing with an old dozer they bought. Except they were confronted by the dope growers. So I started packing when going to that back roads property. That led to me packing most of the time. I have no need to do that anymore so I seldom do so.

RSKY
Since it was decriminalized here in Maine we don’t have to worry about the above scenario. Time was though, if you came across a patch while working, your day was done; GTF out of there for your own safety.
A former coworker came across a patch in the woods which had fish line hanging at eye level, with fish hooks hanging from them. It was pretty sad back then that you couldn’t even use your own land without worrying about interlopers… one reason I chuckle when people comment about hunters trespassing.

Most likely will over time. My wife will tell you I'm a lot like my father. VERY slow to change. Heck, my wife even does mobile phone deposits electronically to the bank where as I drive to the bank to deposit it when I get a check😉

/ Debit vs. Credit Cards #196
Unfortunately, that is not universally true. Even in states that believe they have "decriminalized", there are illegal growers who threaten or harm people.

Feds refuse to enforce that law for economic reasons the same as immigration laws are not enforced.

Now that is one thing I resist doing.

I was offered $500 on a credit card back if I spent $3,000 on it in the first 90 days on goods that I had to buy anyway. I spent a bit over $3,000 and got my statement with $500 off.

I feel like I did pretty good.
So you spent $3000 to save $500? Your financial math is, iffy :) Don't I remember you recommending adjustable rate mortgages or was that someone else?

So you spent $3000 you probably wouldn't have otherwise spent to save $500? Your financial math is, iffy :) Don't I remember you recommending adjustable rate mortgages or was that someone else?
I think maybe you are confused about what he was saying. Using the card rather than paying cash or using a different card made him $500. He never said he was spending on things he wasn't buying anyway.

As for ARMs, they are a tool that can be effective if used correctly. Tractors are great when used effectively, deadly if used carelessly. I see the ARM the same way.
