deck not cutting properly after sharpening blades

Some blades shorten when sharpened a few times and others can be sharpened many times and remain true to length. I have seen both and find it interesting that a blade design can cause you to buy a new set of blades. Usually your mower has several types of blades. This may or may not be the problem.

I still don't think it has to do with the blades.
5" strip matches up with the 5" front anti-scalp roller.

My suspicion, as said before, is the deck is not adjusted right and there is either too much weight on the front roller or the front of the deck isn't 1/4" lower than the rear so the grass isn't cut right.

The OP didn't mention doing the deck adjstments by the manual so can't help much.

This sure sounds like the front anti-scalp roller is pushing the grass ahead of the deck, as could happen if the lift stop wasn't reset after putting the deck back on. If the OP doesn't do the mowing normally, it could go unnoticed, depending on how the other deck wheels were set.

I had something like this happen, but it will be interesting to hear for sure what is happening from the OP.

Well, according to the OP it's the wife's mower and she didn't mow for a year so she should fix it.:laughing:

The idler pulley should move freely.

Hmmmm, I've never checked if the deck is level or not, but after reading this, I'm walking out to the barn to check it right now!!

The belt feels right and I stopped by the dealer today and all he could. One up with was that the belt might be on wrong.

that happens a lot, did they give you a diagram
or do you have one showing the belt routing?
easy to go the wrong way around some of
those idlers....

Ok, forgot to mention that I usually cut at 3.5" Deck looks normal, but I'll measure it tomorrow to verify. Doesn't look like the Roller is low enough to hit the grass.

Most mower will do this if the driver is going to fast. Two blade decks do it and three blade decks do it even worse. The best quality cutting rider I have ever had was a Snapper 28 inch single blade. My 44 inch three blade Simplicity does it right now if I go to fast. Going too fast is a natural tendency when mowing with a zero turn mower.
