CBD, Oh I did not take it as a put down, and my replay was with a lot of jest. Most hunters and shooters really do not how much like a rainbow the flight path is after about 400 yards. Most people never have shot that that far, and most that will tell you that they have hit at over 300 have never measured it. I had one friend that dropped a little buck at what he claimed was over 400 yards, this was on a place I had hunted before and said no way.. Push came to shove and the bet was on.. The next weekend we went out with a laser rangerfinder and checked, 235 yards, the maximun possible in that field was only about 265. Most shots can get pretty long if there is no way to check.
Another point of interest (to me anyway), 308 at a 1000 yards (that magic number for an extreme long way) the bullet will travel from 20 to 24 feet above the line of sight on the way out to the target...
