I looked at the JD 790. Good bang for the buck and it matches my JD green LT155 lawn tractor but I believe it is only manual "Sliding-gear transmission, 8 forward/2 reverse speeds." After getting hydro I am so happy when using the FEL. In fact I use the FEL more than the mower because the mower cuts so fast.
To whine a little the seating on the 790 is tight for long legs. but for a manual tractor it is a good buy.
As fare a pricing Kubotas. If the dealer is not 15% below list price on a tractor in stock go someplace else.
