Deere 400x Loader

Hi All,

Great forum, and glad to be a new member. Just a little about myself. I'm a general hobbyist, and enjoy making just about anything. I have 40 acres in southern Ontario that I have just started installing a small vegetable garden on and 30 tree fruit orchard.

I currently have a 2001 John Deere 4500 tractor. No cab, 4WD.

I want to put a loader on it, but since it is older I cant justify spending the money to get a new one. I have a chance to get a John deere 400x. I know any loader can be made to fit any tractor, but I am wondering if anyone knows if my tractor and that loader would be compatible.

Any opinion would be realty appreciated.

Welcome to TBN.

The 400x is compatible with your 4500, in fact you can still get the mounts through JD:

The 4500 was originally sold with a 460 loader, IIRC...so, there's another option.

Does your 4500 have the hydraulics required...joy stick, control valve and hydraulic tubing/QD's?

The 400x option that I was looking at fell through. I guess I'm back to the drawing board.

Finding a loader for this tractor that is used is harder than I anticipated, and the ones that are available are priced so high it is worth to go new. I guess these are the problems one runs into when they don't have the proper budget allocated. Well hopefully patience pays off.

Yup, used loaders are few and far between that’s for sure, people just don’t sell them without the tractors attached. There are a few aftermarket options, but your still looking at probably 4K to get one.

Welcome to TBN you might try Coldwater tractor give chris a call i purchased one in October fit like a glove if he makes a FEL for your tractor it should be cheaper then a used FEL and every thing new call (360) 533-2160 ask for chris
