Deere Pick Up Truck??

( no, I disagree it should be a work truck, bare bones, with crank windows off the shelf square headlights, JD diesel, bulletproof gear trans and transfer case with mechanical shifter. seats covered in carrhart duck cloth. Too many manly work oreinted features to list. But gotta add real rain gutters and over 10,000 gvw to avoid all airbag BS laws. )

That's really kind of what I had in mind although the wording was bad. I was thinking is that it shouldn't be a "John Deere" brand truck, rather it should be a Deere addition suited to agricultural usage.

I haven't heard anything about a Deere truck, but I have heard that Deere is one of the many companies that have put in a bid to build a diesel engine for the F150.

Wish someone would build another front wheel drive truck but with a small diesel engine, maybe about 2800-3000 pounds total weight. My most-liked truck to drive was a Dodge Rampage. It would haul almost as much as either a Ranger or my present Tacoma but got 28 mpg and drove like a sports car.

If Ford can do a Harley-Davidson special, I see no reason why someone cannot do a JD special. It would be mainly trim/colors and perhaps all of the HD pieces, but it would be unique and be a nice addition to anyone's "fleet". Let's just hope it's a Ford SD or GM HD, etc., and not a Nissan Titan or the like! Not that I don't like the big rice-burner, but some things simply do not belong on a foreign vehicle and "JD" is one of them. (Of course yanmar motors power a lot of JD's so maybe it isn't so far-fetched after all).

If Deere made a heavy duty, four wheel drive truck, with a diesel or hd gas engine, and made it in green only, and made it like they made their tractors, people would wait in line. I'm not talking a Ford, Chevy, Dodge Deere special, I'm talking a Deere truck.

You know guys, this is a "neat" topic... But do any of you guys think it can really happen?

I would say its nearly impossible for a company the size of JD to sprout a completely different line the size of a car company. I understand the Gators and the like but a real truck to compete with the "Big 6"(dont kid yourself with the big 3 anymore)? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif... I guess anything can happen, but I just dont see them doing all the R&D and emission compliance research. They would then have to open a plant with all the special(automotive) tooling and assembly equipment...

Dont get me wrong, JD has a great name and if anyone could do it, they would be the ones, but really /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif......They might as well just build the next space shuttle.....

I'm open to critisizm of my opinion of course. I hope I havent taken a lighthearted post too seriously, but thats the impression I got from reading it.. I do think that a JD eddition F-series would work.. I just couldnt handle the all green paint scheme. I'm a big Harley fan but I would never drive the orange truck.....Well, I guess if the price was right /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif..

I am a Tool & Die Maker and used to build automotive stamping dies for Ford, GM and the rest. Last I heard it cost a billion dollars to produce a new model. If Deere started from scratch they will have many billions invested.

in one of my many magazines that come here, there was a new truck, think it was a GMC, that Deere commissioned to be painted for an advertising gimic.. This, was at least 3 months ago, I'm betting someone picked up on this and thinks it is something to be offered in the future..

thats why I say it should be no frills and classed just so that it stays under Nader Radar. Keep the cost down. Besides I'll bet one of JD's $250k combines has more parts than a pickup (and a nicer interior)
those arent cheap to tool.

Yea, but then Deere would make the crank handles and extra charge option. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
