There is an incredible irony here. First, consider the US worker. We as a nation agree that he should get health insurance, high wages (compared to the rest of the world), worker's comp, union membership etc. We do this because we say that we believe in human rights. And yet, we take those jobs off shore where those rights that we consider can be abused for cheap labor. So we're still abusing someone, and the US worker loses his job. We feel like it is okay to abuse the Chinese or Indian or Mexican worker because they are not US citizens. They do not enjoy the rights and protections we have.
Then, consider the Taliban member, caught in the act of trying to kill US Soldiers or trying to kill US civilians. He is not only a prisoner of war, but he is a war criminal. He has conducted warfare with no uniform or national affiliation. So what do we do with him? Well, with the new party in power, the idea is to bring him into this country where he will enjoy the legal protections enjoyed by US citizens.
Do you guys see the pattern? Rights for those who wish to deprive us of the rights we're offering him! No rights for those from whom we buy goods. No jobs for those whom should be buying goods. So the pattern looks like this:
Our enemy:full rights
Our own worker: no job
Our ttrading partner: abuse of rights
Does that seem messed up or what?
