The panel is already set up for prioritized cicuits my geothermal unit required 10 KW on emergengy (electric element) on back up. I am trying to figure out the load of the heatpump when not operating on emergency element backup.
Still need some more gutts to it, wants to stall in 6 inches of grass, lifting the post hole digger so I can imagine how bad it would be with a loader bucket on it. Thought about adapting a turbo from a small 4 banger car but not sure of the sizes or even if there is a turbo that will fit the small 18 horse diesel?
Turns out my pump went t!ts up so gonna rebuild her and they can juice it up about 20% during the rebuild so that may even take care of the power problem.

If I am not mistaken the largest residential heat pumps currently on the market are around 5kW.

wanna bet I have a 5kw for my pool room/gym and a 10kw for the rest of the house. But those ratings are for running emergency (running on electric elements instead of compressor). Don't know what the draw is when using the compressor only but I would want to be safe in case my water supply pump fails to to a spike then I would be left with no heat at all so I'll plan for the load at 10kw min. Therefor I will need 20 kw to run the rest of the priorty circuits.

I'm as cheap as they come. Wouldn't it just make more sense to buy a standby generator for the house alone. I have the Deutz 5220. If you keep messing with those tractors trying to squeeze more HP out of them and something big let's go. Motor, trans, etc... Your goin to spend 2x the amount in parts to fix the tractor if you can even get them anymore. The loader should be no problem as-is. My dad has one on his little JD110. I would keep your house separate from your toys.

Let me wade back in here. By the sounds of it you have 5KW + 10 KW as back up heat to the geo. As I suggested earlier if you were to load shed then you will not have as much connected load. I have a 10 KW electric furance that heats my house, the actual calulated load was 8 KW as confirmed by the Hydro engineer they did not trust my calc at 8 KW. Since I have the basement insulated I have been able to disconnect one bank of elements, my max connected load is 5 KW electric furnace. I have 3000 watts in the basement but they are turned off. The load cycle on my 5KW is 50% so my continous load is 2500 watts
If you had a HVAC guy install a switch in your back up elements then the load could be greatly reduced. OK maybe at -25C the house will start to slowly cool but you will be still running. This will make it more affordable to buy a 10 Kw standby or re power the existing. Another thought for standby heat is a pellet stove they draw 300 watts, tht is where I am going to next year and they put out 50,000 BTU div by 3.41 to get watts.

the 10kw and 5kw are geothermal heat pumps and they are primary heat. In a power outage I could do without the 5kw but need the 10kw unit as the main heat source. Kind of hard to redistribute that when that alone maxes out the generator. It draws 10kw only when there is a problem with the compressor or water flow to the unit. That is when the emergency electric element kicks in and makes it function as an electric furnace. I could run the heat pump and a few other circuits on the 10kw generator PTO generator that I already have if it is not operating on electric but I want some reserve power in case I do need to run the geo units on electric. I plan for worse case scenario. I am building a couple of solar collectors this summer so I'll run a coil into the geo units then but even with hot water heat, it is not guarrantteed to get all the sunlight it needs at all times. Simplest things is to bump up tractor out put to about 25 hp which is safe and easy then I could trade my kw pto generator for a 20 or 25 kw unit and all will be well. I was an HVAC guys before my office job so I let my oilburner mechanic and gasfitter licenses lapse but I still do all my own work.

I looked on Internet and couldn't find any domestic HP bigger than 5kW. For larger load several units are usually cascaded.
I have the biggest Waterfurnace in my house and it is about 4.8 kW (18.5 kW heat output) with 9kW back up electric heat. I turned the back up electric heat off right after it was installed and so far never needed it. If needed I will just flip the breaker ON. Even though the compressor in the heat pump is about 5kW the 10 kW generator might have problem starting it especially when there is additional load present.
