Yey, no problem. I got no issues with what ever others want to do with their tractors.. as long as I'm not the guy stuck for the repairs down the road. While i would think that an oil not rated for a final drive may work ok.. and even ok for some time.. i wonder about the long term. I'm one of those guys that collects the tractors in the 50-60 year old range. While ATF might not hurt a tractor in the 5-10-20.. or even 30 year range.. what about double that? If the atf is not providing the same level of anti wear and cushion that utf does.
I know a guy that ran plain hyd oil ( jack oil ) in his diffy instead of utf, as he had heard that you just 'put hyd oil in it' instead of taking to time to find out that the person telling him that was refering to transdraulic oil.. not hyd oil. While I'm guessing that very little damage was done to the drivetrain in that week.. I'm sure more wear occoured than had the correct oil been in there.. even if it took a microscope or oil metal anylisis to determine that... etc.
