Hey folks -
I'll try to make this as succinct as possible. Did my 50hr service a few weeks ago, it's been 90% loader+tiller (w/hyd toplink) work since getting the CX in Feb.
Installed the backhoe last week in anticipation of some trenching. Cycled all the cylinders, re-checked hyd fluid, all is good. Not thinking I left the rear remote ON (for backhoe), with backhoe plumbed in. Not a problem in of itself, just need to remember to turn it off when not in use, but it's how I discovered this problem.
Motored around doing some loader work, and after about 30minutes it developed a squeal from the rear end of tractor (not backhoe). I now believe this noise is the main pressure relief. The noise would *temporarily* go away when I'd move the loader. The noise went away *entirely* when I turned off the rear remote (center position). Moving 3pt had no impact (out of circuit when remote is on), and HI/LO HST didn't impact it. Pitch of the noise changed with RPM, which leads me to believe it's hyd/pump/relief.
I removed, cleaned, inspected, re-attached the remote hoses. Next day same thing, after warmed up, squealing, went away when I turned off backhoe circuit. I know I don't need to keep the remote ON when not using backhoe, but at this point I'm trying to pin down the issue.
Did about an hour of backhoe work, eventually the noise came back. There's a notable amount of heat coming from the BH operator station/valves, so much I could feel it on my legs. To me heat = restriction. I don't know how much heat is normal, I was working the BH pretty good. Also the one rear remote connection on the tractor was *nearly* (but not) too hot to hold.
The last thing I tried was swapping the remote lines, and running the remote lever in the opposite direction. The noise went away but I didn't run it long after.
My plan is a few things:
1)picking up a male-to-male pioneer hyd hose tomorrow, to loop the remote hyd lines at the rear of the tractor, and do some loader work while remote is enabled. If the noise returns then it's in the tractor (possibly remote valve?) or those fittings.
2)I removed the rear cover from the backhoe controls. I have an infrared camera and I'll see if anything jumps out at me.
Just a guess, I'm thinking maybe there's a restriction in one of the center-return valves in the backhoe.
Dealer has been great, they're just very far away/not easy to bring the tractor in (and I am in the middle of running water/electric so I need the tractor). So there's an incentive to pinpoint the issue quickly, even if it ends up to them to fix.
Question for you folks is there any way a ball-detent style fitting can fail in the valving or check? Can you disassemble them? The hot rear fitting makes me suspicious, but I know they're also a flow choke point so would naturally heat up.
Thanks for any thoughts you might have. Below is the hyd ckt; don't have one for the backhoe.
