I would think the performance would be better ... may loose some turning radious.

How about fuel efficiency?
I was amazed at how much more fuel my newer tractor uses versus the old one. Only 20 hp difference.
The new one is turbocharged to boot.
I guess the loss in economy to be the fact that the newer one weighs 8700 pounds and has 4 cylinders.
versus the old one only weighing 6900 pounds and has 3 cylinders.

Performance better on 2wd-95HP? I find myself using the 4wd on the current tractors alot, but didnt know if I went bigger 2wd it would help out.

I need to re-group ... I thought it was a 4x4 ... man I was out in left field!! Whats the weight difference between the models? Ron brings up a good point about fuel ... I have 2 .... 4 wheel drive tractors the rest are not ... when the conditions or the job calls for 4x4 I get one of them out ... BTW my most versatile, fuel efficent go to tractor is my 4340C Montana ... 43 hp and just down right handy.

I had a hard time spending the extra money for HP I would probaly not need or regret not having 4x4,so I desided on new Kubota 7040,cab,4x4,ldr, added xtra rear remote(2total), ordered the wider R1 tires(same as the 8540/9540 fronts),loaded tires and they are widen the stance 6inches. Have to take and get windows tinted sometime and my brother is going to replace the factory speakers/radio and add a small sub. for some good TUNES:cool2: in the hay field(for my birthday gift 8/10/79). Maybe around saturday delievery but had to order the front tires,so that will be a later date. I already miss the 5040,that was a great stout little tractor but will always have the pictures,to show a 46pto HP will pull a 15ft batwing and do it well mowing bottum 4.JPG

This one will stay out of the trees and in barn(speaking of barn I may need to add on).......
Off to take my herbicide private applicator test tomorrow, wish me luck, didnt get my study books til today:duh:......

....
Congrats on new tractor! My wife always gets me with the saying, " The only difference between men and boys, is the price of their toys"

I have a question about tire loading....
My old tractor has over sized agricultural tires that are loaded 1/2 full with salt water.
The newer tractor has radial agricultural tires loaded, so they say, over 3/4ths full of windshield wiper fluid.
The difference, so they say, is that the wiper fluid is not as heavy as the salt water so they load them 3/4ths full to compensate.
For some reason that I have really not determined, the newer tractor feels less stable when going sideways across a steep hill.
My wife thinks it is caused by the tire fluid being above the rear axle level. I don't think so but wonder if you guys have any noticeable
difference in various tractors and if so what you attribute it to?

They load half full of water and I believe 2gallons of antifreeze and man it makes it a whole different tractor, and drives alot smoother. I think if your totally over the rim it would make them alittle top heavy cause leaning on hill brings the fluid level on top of rim and more weight is on top of axle from both sides now leaning higher up(2cents). Ever thought about letting some out and trying it until it feels good?

Well I passed my test, not scared to admit only made an 86 but boy dont wonna take that class again,oh yeah 100 questions. Now gotta wait 8wks for liscence.

Talked to dealer may have tractor ready tomorrow and I will pick up,still need to get stuff out of my tool box.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the congrats. New Orange:thumbsup: Now gotta load hay equipment up and get ready to bale in cple weeks. Thank you lord for the rain, all you have done for me, my family and my TBN friends/family.....

Glad you got it done, but is there any/much food value for your livestock?
We had a situation like yours prior to buying our own hay making equipment 20 years ago, in fact it made us determined to buy the equipment to do our own before the next spring.
Any first cutting grass hay this late in our parts, particularly with only 3/4" of rain total since May 13th wouldn't be worth the fuel to cut, rake and bale. Isn't most of the bulk of your 69 rolls just dried up stems and seed heads?
The old saying, "it's better than eating snow" is often applied but it would be interesting to know next spring, if you keep any notes on consumption, how much of it is really consumed by your livestock versus wasted and if it effects their average weight gain.
