Its buyer beware at auctions. Yes, you should have looked more closely at the RTV and set your max bid accordingly. Since it's a diesel and as long as it runs good enjoy it. I would change all the fluids to be safe.
I have been to many auctions and found lots of people don't do their research ahead of time and pay too much. At one auction years ago I saw an 18 year old tractor with over 4000 hours (26HP CUT) sell for $9500 plus commission (over 10K total). The tractor needed some repairs and was only worth about 6K. At another auction I saw 2 used PJ trailers sell for more than retail and both needed parts too.

Agree ! I once saw a man trying to sell his mother in law at a livestock auction as an older goat ! :D
When it was discovered I believe deputy's hauled him off for fraud. ;)

Thanks guys, I buy from auctions on a regular, mostly heavy equipment so I know the risks involved, this is the first time I've bought a side by side and just didn't know the value. I had about 2 minutes to check eBay and then bid. I've decided to take the advice and just keep it, it was a Neff rental so I'll check with them and see about the history, hopefully they will have the maintenance records. You would think that being a rental they would have taken care of it as far as the fluid and filter changes. There's a Kubota dealership about 30 minutes away, I'm gonna take it to them and have them give it a once over. Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad I found this site..

Did I screw up pay to much? Thanks....

One of the most useless endeavors is to buy something, then ask if you paid too much...
There isn't much you can do (if you did pay too much) and knowing you may have paid too much can reduce the enjoyment of a new toy/tool.
So, learn from the experience and hope you don't repeat it.

Enjoy your RTV900...

I've gotta agree with Roy on this one. Lesson learned, carry on. Good advice on a full fluid change as well. If you do it yourself, you can look for signs that might alert you to an issue.

Neff is good about their maintenance and fluids/filters being changed per mfg spec, also a maint history will show where repairs and parts have been done over the time period they had it. You should be able to call any of their locations any they should be able to look it up and make a copy or e-mail it to you.

Being a rental would only add value to me. I see plenty of them around here being rented out to road construction companies. They use them for the foreman who drives from area to area to check on things. They use them for filling up light towers. I've even seen them used occasionally for towing small generators and light towers around. Every time I see them parked they are always running (up the hours) while doing nothing. On top of that the rental company is always coming over to maintain the equipment like clockwork.

Maybe in other's eyes they would rather have one owned by a farmer who may have only put half the hours on it but could have not been as diligent as a rental company who understands that they have to be on top of oil changes or their bottom line will be hurt with added costs and an angry customer who now has a broken piece of equipment. Plus on a farm it's likely the farmer's son took it for a few rides to 'clean the cobwebs out'.

After all it's not like an 18 year old is going down to the local rental company to get an RTV for a weekend of beating it with-in inches of it's life.

This is a good point. MOST rental equipment I would never consider purchasing, but an RTV (or any work UTV for that matter) really won't see the abuse that most rental machines do, and especially one that didn't have a hydraulic dump bed so their wouldn't be too many heavy loads in the dump bed (or you would think they'd put the cylinder on it)
