Thaks for the reply..... is Midwest the same as First Choice? Do you stock all colors?? thanks again....

The last of the First Choice implements that were made by Midwest are approaching 2 years of sitting on a dealers lot. Midwest is "the real thing" not something relabeled in a old Coke bottling plant. It's hard for me to understand new stuff this old on a dealers lot. Most of the good Midwest dealers have a turnover rate of 4-6 times a year. Currently orange is an exclusive color for Kioti dealers but you can have Kubota Gray. Most dealers will stock one or two colors.

Curved tines are a mixed blessing. The curve allows the tine to enter the turf in a straight path since the tine is "rolling" into turf. Coming out, the point of the tine is cut at an angle to reduce the turf damage as the tine "rolls" out. This creates a slot under the turf with a small amount of compaction, but a smaller entry wound. The worst style is the straight spike as not only does it create a larger entry/exit wound, but it also compacts the soil around the hole in the process. Works kind of like a sheep's foot roller on construction sites.

Can this small compaction be avoided completely? For example, by a small design change in the point of the tine? I have an idea - but you have experience.

The vertical coring units common to golf courses come the closest to absolutely 0 compaction from the action of coring. Normally, the small amount of compaction generated by the rolling units is more than offset by the removal of the core.

Re: Aerator

So, I understand from your words that there is really no need to worry about the small compaction generated by these curved hallow tines rolling in a straight path into the turf. Thanks. (ps: picture I attached may attract your interest)

Re: Aerator

Thanks for the picture. We knew this particular manufacturer was doing a little "homework". LOL

I called the local Kioti dealer to inquire about price and availability.... told me that they don't carry the Kioti aerator because it is too expensive and that the Agrafab one was just as good and more than half the price at $275.00.....

I don't see any three point aerators listed on the agrifab website /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
