I remember when I first started shopping Kubotas, when we took possession of our property, I knew I wanted a small tractor. I confess, when I first began, my data was many years out of date. Returning to the country meant a tractor, that much I knew for sure. Upon getting serious about Kubota, I remember my very first visit to the sales lot. It didn't take long to cast my eyes on the BX.

The salesman was frank. He DID point out the HST fan and it's "tenderness", shall we shall. Question.

Did your salesman point this out to you? If so, was he open and frank about it? Did he volunteer the information? Did he point out that the B series sitting next to the BX did not have the HST cooling fan? Did he point out the risks if operating the BX in the woods or fields?

Conversely, was the HST fan never mentioned? Did you have find out about it's "tenderness" through experience or reading here at TBN?

No one said anything about the fan on my BX or our JD2305.

There is a right tractor for every job. We do not recommend a sub compact for this reason to people who are headed to the back forties or woods! We do like to sell up at this point.

No, They didn't. However the Service guy knew all about it, how much time it was gonna take to fix, how much the parts were, how much the labor was gonna be, how to go about it, etc. Seems they had just done a 5-6 of them in the last few weeks. He quoted he ~$1200 IIRC for a $1.98 part, the rest was shop materials & labor. I changed it myself. It did take me awhile longer than if they had done it. I fabricated a cage to go around the HST but I didn't really like the air restriction it caused. The trans started getting warmer than it should  Since then I've installed an aftermarket skid plate that protects the HST & the trans from damage. It has some dings & scratches to show I would've had to fix it again. Bro-Tek Skid Plates  Worth every penny IMO.
A machinist friend has fabricated a HST from stainless steel for his BX-23 after his was destroyed x2. He does LOTS of bush hogging on his horse farm. He used the original fan as a pattern & CNC'ed new ones for it. Kind of scary b/c it mulches any sticks up as they come into it.
T-Man.

No, never mentioned, but I knew all about it from reading TBN and similar sites, and about the options to add a skid plate. Should be interesting what Kubota's response is to the pending JD 1023 and 1026. I've read that the later, at least, uses an oil cooler for the HST and comes with position control. Expect it will cost more than the otherwise comparable BX, so maybe Kubota adds these features to the upper end of the BX line, say the BX2660, or not. Time will tell.

If Kubota doesn't follow suit and offer these, I believe they will lose quite a few sales. Another thing I really don't like on the BX is the location of the tie rods in front of the axle while JD has them behind. I have already torn my boots up once.

I basically agree, and I believe JD is offering a few more defining features in the 1026 - foldable rops option, I believe, can't recall what else. I think the 1023 is more basic and will be the price point competitor. So, I'm thinking Kubota may enhance some but not all of their BX line, or perhaps they'll try to do them one better accross the entire BX line??? Should be interesting.

I used the fan issue in negotiations with my wife (and myself a little) to upgrade (again, started at a used riding mower) to the B series.
