Oil & Fuel Diesel cans, Best ones???

5030,

What do you do about summer vs. winter blends of diesel? Seems like you may need to add anti-geling agents in winter with that much fuel.....Maybe you burn through it quickly so it's a non-issue.

( No help here, just some whining. I've been unable to find yellow diesel jugs of any size, anywhere! Wal-Mart, Kmart, Home Depot, auto parts stores...nuthin'. Even the local JD dealer only had blue kerosene jugs.

What's up with that? I'm hoping the new TSC store going in down the road will have them.

I'm using a red 5 gallon gas can - which I KNOW someone here (probably me!) will get mixed-up with the regular gas cans -

but the size, when full, is unwieldy to lift over the top of my JD 4110 to refuel. I'm hoping to get 2-3, 2 gallon yellow diesel jugs for Valentine's Day.

Please be careful with this. My experience is I had some old gas in a can I had marked as kerosene. I had drained the old gas out of my generator and put it in that can as that was the only can I had empty. When I did that I thought I would get rid of it the next time I was out. I was lighting some brush fires and grabbed the first kerosene can I came to and went about starting the fire. Needless to say I "blew myself up" as my wife likes to put it. Threw me about ten feet back and second degree burns on my hands, arms, and face. Really scarry thing is that my two kids were just there standing beside me and they had went off in the woods to play. Learned the hard way to only put fuels in the cans they are to go in.

Be careful of the yellow diesel cans from TSC. I bought one there year before last and the filler hole wasnt big enough for an off road diesel nozzle. I had to hold the nozzle outside the can and shoot it in. I almost always made a mess. I no longer use that can. I havent seen those same cans at the TSC here lately but yours may still have them.

Question: Who's more stupid than an idiot that makes a "diesel" can that a diesel nozzle wont fit in???

Answer: The idiot that buys one. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The thing I've run into is not all stations have the same size diesel nozzles.

One may not want to put the large diameter high volume nozzel in a plastic 5 gallon container. Inadvertently fully opening the nozzle may make for a nice diesel shower!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Then there's trying to clean yourself off before getting in your vehicle and ensuing diesel smell that never seems to leave the vehicle.

Egon:

I think I have said this before..........

Hillbilly aftershave, diesel fuel.

My supplier blends an additive package that includes an anti-bacterial agent into my fuel. I have never had an anti-gelling agent put in and I have had no problems. Matter of fact, I ahven't seen "rubber fuel" in a long time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

( Yeah I just use red ones also, but I took a Sharpie and wrote DIESEL ONLY so hopefully it will never be a problem. I am the only one that fills it, but you never know if the wife or teenage son needed it and I was gone, I wanted something that hopefully would get their attention.)

I do the same thing and it works great, for them. Unfortunately, I"m the only smart one in the bunch - smart enough to put in 2.5 gallons of unleaded to top off the 4 gallon diesel tank in the Kubota last year. I ran it for an hour that way until I finally figured out why it didn't run well at full throttle. No harm done. This event is the source of my signature on this listserver!
