Diesel Exhaust Burns Eyes

It's more than likely the pump, i had a 74 model identical to yours & that's what the problem was, i've been wrong before though.

Ronnie

What was wrong with your tractors IP? I can't envision how an IP alone could cause burning eyes unless the speed advance wasn't operating properly.
Thanks,Jim

Seems that it's over my head from these posts so I'm taking it to the shop this week. I will let you fine folks know the outcome. It's also smoking (white), so hopefully it will solve both problems.

When you say "shop", is it a Deere shop or your local diesel shop?
Not that it makes a difference if the shop has access to the proper settings and procedures for dialing in your engine.

I have a shade tree guy. He did the overhaul for me and it didn't start this until it broke in (about 10 hours). I'm taking it back to him for a "tune". If he can't do it than I'll go to Bridgeport eqt. (Dealer). I'm pretty sure he'll fix it the same day though unless he needs to order parts.

Don't overlook the obvious. Is the air filter clogged?

Jim, i'm not sure, i had been thinking about getting another tractor, he had one there & i traded for it, actually got what i paid for the 820 twelve years earlier. I know he had the pump rebuilt before he sold it.

It's possible it was IP repair that resolved your tractors problem but changing IP timing from where it had been set prior to the repair.

My 1972 Deere 820 tractor has been burning what smells like raw fuel. It burns my eyes when Im backing up and I can taste raw fuel. The tail pipe is down low for orchard use and Id like to leave it there. It just started doing this after an overhaul which did not include new injectors. Any help much apprectiated.

It might be a good idea to have the engines compression verified in addition to the IP timing,
just to be sure the rebuild is meeting new engine specs.
unburned diesel (white smoke) is possible with insufficient compression or late fuel injection events

best wishes- Hopefully it is something simple.
