Greetings, I checked the engine oil today and it was way over full. I pulled the plug didn't have time to measure how many quarts came out but it looks like too much. Does that mean a pump injector replacement or can it be fixed? The engine is running fine I don't expect and injector leak. What do you think? Thanks

Tommy is leading you in the right direction. Check your hydro level.

This point may be academic if both engines use the identical fuel delivery and hydraulic layouts. But I was under the impression that the FT254 was equipped with the JD385 (Jiangdong? Jaingling?), as opposed to the YangDong Y385.

Not that I doubt your word, the importer may have actually ordered his with Y385s. But it might pay to double check the engine label anyway.

Did it smell strongly of diesel? I think by the design of these IP's, it would be more likley to have diesel leak out the IP case vent than into the crankcase. A dribbling injector might be putting esough liquid fuel into a cylinder for some to leak by into the case, but it would take a LOT of running to make a noticible change in the oil level IMO.

Hydraulic fluid leaking from a pump shaft seal is a far more likley reason IMO.

Thanks for the thoughts! Tommy I'll look in that direction. The first owner removed the dipstick and installed a snorkel on the hydraulic tank.
Hi Chris, been watching your posts. Greg it is a Y385, didn't know there were two engines used. I checked the smell Ron, but couldn't tell for sure. I'll see what I can find. The gauge was very close to empty but dont remember how much fuel was in when I started working. Thanks again. Richard

An oil analysis will tell you for sure what you have (and more), but first you have to believe that it will be money well spent.

Nothing conclusive. There was just over 6 quarts with what was in the filter drained from the engine. The hydraulic oil was down a bit but I have the FEL up and blocked so I can open the bonnet, hood, helmet, what you ma call it.
Tommy wrote like it was more likely the hydraulic pump seal, I think I might prefer that. There was a slight smell of diesel to the oil. I have an leak in the backhoe to find. I could put oil in and watch it more closely.
Bob, Oil analysis, what are we talking 20, 50, 75, 100? I won't give up one of the kids. Never had one done, who does them? Richard

"Google" oil testing or oil analysis and you will find lots of places that do it - even Amsoil. Oil analysis is a more sophisticated form of predictable failure analysis. I use Staveley Services at $26.00 a pop, others are undoubtedly cheaper but you get what you pay for. I will decrease my oil change interval to 200 hrs.

Ron, I don't have a crankcase vent to the intake on this tractor. I will set up one.

Bob, I found the # of a Lab in Gardnerville,Nevada I think I'll call them tomorrow. I may not have a test done at this time but its good to have a lab that close. The price you mentioned is way under what I expected for an analysis.
