JohnK, I know way more about sportbikes than tractors, but I'm learning and trying my best to "get it", but we always had our sportbikes broken in by the first 20 miles.
My point is, I don't see why rings can't be seated on a tractor the same way...???...???
Alternating rpm's/loads on the engine will seat them (theoretically anhow), again, unless I'm missing something.
Oil serves the same purpose, no matter what type, but there are differences: Syntec will resist viscosity longer (thus longer life, longer use of the same oil, thus don't have to change as often). Syntec will also resist burning more than carbon based oils. The list is long of the advantages, but if you are going to stay atop of the changes, regular carbon based oil is fine.
You can alternate between them if you wanted to because of your budget or whatever.
On a sportbike, we didn't run syntec oil until after the first 2500 miles, if the bike WASN'T broken in within the first 20 miles. On bikes broken in according to factory specs, the 2500 mile rule before syntec was in effect. The reason...I don't know. I just followed suit to all the guys who taught me and who build/race and work on bikes. It was just taboo, and I didn't ask why. Maybe I'm just a knucklehead...haha.
