CAT's synthetic engine oil is relabeled Delvac One. I'm not sure about their conventional oil but I would think if their using Mobil for their synthetic their probably using Mobil as the supplier for their conventional also.

That's good to know. I have another source for Delvac one now since my BIL works for a CAT dealer.

From the posts I've read here, it seems you could run any synthetic oil that you can put in Japanese sportbike...it doesn't foam, it is extremely resistant to viscosity and can withstand a frickin' beating (14-18,000 rpms) for an easy 3000 miles. Also, the ansi ratings of most high quality syntec oil is off the charts compared to OEM oils.

I may be missing something with added zinc, calcium and all that jazz, I don't know.

I'm going to research this a little further before my first oil change.
True on the sportbikes, but I've always run the Rotella Synthetic in the bikes long before I started using it in the tractors. If you look at any sport or touring forums, you will find a huge number of folks that love Rotella for the bikes.

I checked the MSDS's and it looks like Exxon Mobil makes all of Caterpillars engine oils except two special application single viscosity oils. MSDS's for synthetic Cat engine oil
I asked a family friend who works for a large company about the OEM relationships they have and specifically about if company A makes it for B, is the same oil used for both brands. He said no way. Just because we make it dont assume its the same oil. The vast majority produce the oil based on a blend that the customer specs out. Unless you had the additive package evaluated, you'd never know if it was the same oil. In most cases you will find that is wont be.

I know for a FACT that the Cat synthetic is the exact same oil as Delvac One. I have seen VOA's (virgin oil analysis) for both of them and the results were exactly the same. Exact same oil properties, same exact additive levels, same TBN, etc...

There is a Mobile site on the web, and they recommend Mobile Turbo diesel synthetic for all diesels. "I wonder why"

If I remember correctly it's about the same as Delvac One. It's mainly a marketing thing. The TD oil is marketed to the light duty pick up truck owner with a diesel engine while the Delvac line is marketed to the heavy trucking industry.

You can't argue with facts if you've seen the datasheets. As a whole that is not the case based on what I've been told. I did ask again and he said the lower end can be relabeled a lot for store brands but not normally in the high end stuff. Exceptions like the one you pointed out do exist however.
