Diesel price

Fuel prices around in my area confuse the heck out of me.

Our town USUALLY, almost always, has the highest fuel price. There is a crossroads that USED to be the cheapest place to buy fuel. There is another gas station that was ALWAYS the most expensive of the places I would drive by.

For the last couple of months the town and cross roads gas stations have had the same fuel prices and what used to be the most expensive station has been the cheapest. $3.35 for town/crossroad stations vs 2.95 at old expensive station.

This week, the town has stations selling diesel for $2.79, the crossroads was "down" to $3.15 and the old expensive station is still at $2.95. I have never seen the different stations vary this much in fuel prices and which station had the best/worst price.

WEIRD.

I have previously heard that it pays Portuguese residents living near the border to cross into Spain for fuel.

OldMcD - Our friends in France say the same - it amazes them when they visit us that the fuel is so cheap. However I was personally shocked when I returned to the UK in November and actually managed to buy road diesel from a rural BP petrol station (in Forest of Dean) at the same price (allowing for exchange rate) as I was then paying here (Alicante)...! I am sure it must have been a case of my being in the right place at the right time or wrong place at the wrong time before I left Spain..!

Got it today at noon for $2.24 (off road). Gas was $1.80 then and was $1.99 a few minutes ago.

I would like to know why we pay more for diesel than gas. When I bought my 02 diesel truck it was always cheaper now it has been at times almost $1.00 higher. I thought when the wars slowed down it would drop because the military uses a lot of diesel but no dice.
Too many have caught on to the fact that diesel has more energy/g than gas. ... buying diesel was free money. Not likely to happen again.

Some members have commented on using diesel in their tractors that is decades old. This would be better in an older tractor designed to use high sulfur fuel of course. I think if you keep water out of the fuel and treat the fuel, I think it will last a very very long time.
Probably has a shelf life ~ crude.
