The mainline media always quotes the highest price possible for the highest quality of crude oil, ie Texas Intermediate Sweet, Brent, Arab High, etc., all very rare and very clean crude oil stocks which naturally fetch the highest price possible.
However, in reality, the majority of the world's crude oil supply is NOT high quality very rare crude stocks, instead it is very cruddy low quality contaminated high sulfur crude oil which sells now for $13-$15 a barrel
The only reason it is NOT used in the US is the lack of refineries and lack of refinery capacity since US refineries have been built to handle only clean crude oil stocks and not the much much cheaper lower grade crude stocks.
