So true. The bed height difference between, say, a 1967 Ford 3/4 ton and a new F250 must be nearly a foot. And the payload is no different. I think it must be styling, because these trucks don't need to be that high off the ground for any useful reason.

Here is an article on actual use of ethanol in brazil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel_in_Brazil please note that they are coming up with a 34% energy surplus just from making ethanol.

Having an uncle that makes ethanol for personal consumption and not ever seeing a backyard refinery making gasoline. I am willing to bet ethanol does not require as much energy to produce as gasoline.

I actually run a car lot and body shop so i have a lot of experience with all of the manufactures. The current shop truck is a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado full size 350 4 wheel drive Z 71, that consistently gets 18 mpg. on the other hand my brother has a 03 Toyota Tacoma 4 wheel drive trd package, that has only given him a best mileage of about 15 mpg. When it comes to hauling a loaded car trailer guess which one has the power to do so

Being 6’3” I find riding in the small trucks from all the manufactures to be very uncomfortable. I also find that constantly bending over more to get things out of the bed of a smaller truck more fatiguing

I have a hard time believing that a:
"1998 Chevrolet Silverado full size 350 4 wheel drive Z 71" gets a consistent 18MPG. You are getting mileage that would be expected of a diesel that size... How do you calculate mileage, what is the shape of the truck, what type of driving do you do? etc.

I find that in this thread/forum, ppl inflate their MPG. So, for example you don't say what the TRD engine is, or what it is used for, etc. . .
And, btw, I run a cummins 12v in a dodge 2500. As of today, I'm getting a 18.5 winter MPG. In summer, 23+/- MPG (lots of idle in winter). 4x4, cap on truck, mostly backroad/town traffic.
I don't mean to be confrontational here, I'm just making a request really... I see lots of posts of MPG, i just want people to qualify them.. -art

Then Bigfoot ought to be ideal for you and maybe Shaquille O'Neal. I have never heard another person complain that the bed of a truck was too low.

forgive me for actually getting what the EPA posted on the window sticker saying what it should get for a short bed std cab. i must be lair and you must be doing good with that cummins since EPA gave it the same 17 mpg rating as the gas 5.7 hemi.the chevys confirgued the same as the older one with 5.3 engine rated with more power are rated for 19

also the best mpg for a truck belongs to the ford ranger 2.3 and the worst belongs to a chevrolet full size with a 8.1 engine, that ought to really get your panty's in a bunch

it might just be me but calling someone a lair in your first sentence is being confrontational

well i guess i am the first. wait till your first back surgery bending over just tie your shoes becomes a scary ordeal afraid that your going to re injure yourself. don't even ask me to get something heavy off of a low slung trailer i am liable to burst in to tears

First thing, lair is spelled liar. Unless you are trying to tell us you are an animal den. . . Secondly, I didn't accuse you of lying, just said that I have a hard time believing the mileage for that size truck/engine. But, since you provided nothing more in way of evidence, I still don't believe.

You don't need to worry if I think you are a liar, I'm not your parent, just some dude on this site trying to have a conversation with you.

If anything, the EPA is the liar, or as you prefer, lair...

I'm sure many other Chevy owners can attest to the 18 mpg of them. Chevy's have always gotten way better mileage in the gas engines than Ford or Dodge. I have heard of many guys stating the 18 mpg range. We borrow my brother-in-law's truck whenever we go to Montana skiing and to visit and it's usually in that 17-19 range. It's a 93 short box, extracab, 4x4, 2500. I don't think jinma is out of line at all with his claims.

As far as the toyota I had two 4x4's that were the compacts back in the 80's. They NEVER saw better than 20 mpg even driving 55. The best truck for mileage we ever had were the diesel rangers. Those things would get 30 mpg on the highway and in the 20's in 4wd on the ranches. Never understood why they quit making those.

geesh guys, I'm not accusing anyone of lying or being out of line. All I said was I have a hard time understanding/believing that that truck gets the posted MPG. But, if it actually does, then great, I'm happy for you... I didn't intend to hijack this thread with my post last night, so I'm gonna leave this alone from here on......

Art I wasn't attacking you. You had simply asked for some proof and I was just corraborating jinma's story with my own experience. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
