It is widely believed that the only difference between on-road and off-road is the addition of red dye. They are probably the same as they come into the distributor, it would be too expensive to ship and store two different types, so there is only one type produced and shipped.

It is considered doubtful. Would refineries produce two different runs, store, and ship them?

It becomes an important issue since many off road vehicles are older and not designed for ultra low sulfur.

Off road and road diesel are the same in my area, just the dye is added. For that matter Home Heating Oil is the same as off road.

This varies from place to place but that is how it is here with my 2 distributors.

No lifting involved, drop the hose in the fuel can, turn the pump one way and it will transfer it into the storage barrel. Don't you still have to lift the 5 gallon can to dump it into the barrel jus like you would to dump the can of fuel into your tractor?
10*Why not just get another barrel and use the pump to fill the other drum/barrell and do away with the 5 gallon can/cans compleatly ?

Not in my case, The two way pump will allow me to pump the fuel from the 5 gal. can into the storage drum. THen, when I get ready to fuel my tractor, I will just pump from the drum into the tractor. I believe the pump is called a bi-directional barrel pump.

About 95 % of the change over from LSD to ULSD has now been completed.

I have one of those 100 gallon rectangular tanks with flanges on the bottom to bolt it to your truck bed. At one time, it was a necessity to have it on the truck during the summer with a lot of fuel use. During the winter, 100 gallons of fuel provided some weight for my dually to get around in the snow.

Now days, I barely use a 100 gallons a year so I have the tank on a pallet. Come fill up time, I pick it up with my tractor and strap it on the truck. Fill it, set it back off for my occasional use. I just hook up the 12v pump to the tractor battery.

FWIW, for regular use with my diesel truck, Power Service suffices. For my tractor, I go with FPPF Total Power.

Well, that sucks! I always heard that sulfur is actually better for diesels. Figures they would remove it to only make one run to save $$.

This is my setup I bought for $140. I recently bought new hose, pump, and filter, just need time to get it setup when i get home. I'm thinking I will like gravity feed - pretty foolproof.
Of course, as I was bragging what a deal I got on it to my concrete sub, he told me one of the local oil distributors will supply a free tank for off-road.... I'm assuming that's if you order a LOT of diesel....

Lbrown - Where are you South of Canton? I'm in Dover. Have you shopped around for oil suppliers?
