Diesel Truck advice

Rat , I'm not sure if I understand your post exactly. But Il'l try to answer it anyway /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I didn't buy my truck to be the biggest baddest thing on the road . (and I'm not disheartened /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) I got it to haul me ,and a lot of tools over a lot of miles daily ,on a lot of hilly country Pa country roads . I occasionally pull a trailer of around 5k . So far it's never lacked in power to do the job I bought it for . The lowest mileage I've gotten is 13.5 , the highest is 21 . I've pulled my 3130,FEL and, rear blade on a 10kgvw trailer . and while I knew it was there , it pulled fine . (6.0 psd , Torqueshift ) John

I think the light the tirelighting up thing is right. You have a turbo motor, that makes lots of power. But, if you hit it right off a light, it takes just a second for everything to kick in. My truck comes on hard and fast with the 4.11's. But, it still takes just a fraction for her to come on really strong.

That is one reason big exhausts work well on the diesels. Even if there is not a change in overall HP and/or torque, less restriction behind that turbo means less turbo lag....

The Hp is pretty cool. I think bigger diesel hp feels different than the snappy feel of bigger gas hp.

What really amazes me is my '01 is 235hp, while just a couple years later, they are pumping 325hp. I'm not sure what my torque rating is; I would like to compare it to the new 600ft/lb stats.

During my time with the FD, I got to drive a number of engines. I really like that 8.9l Cummins. 350hp, but like 1400ft/lb torque. It's a little heavy for a 3/4 ton front end though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
