Tires Diff between R1 and R4 tires?

Alright, no one here has said it yet so I'll chime in:

R4's look better. :D

No they don't, No they don't!!!!!;):D I admit I like the looks of my R4's, but the 16.9 R-1's look pretty sexy to me too.........:D Of course you get the full affect once you wax the tractor and armorall the tires!! LOL

Sorry, but I just have to disagree; love the looks of these.

Maybe on larger tractors R-1's look good, but on CUTs they look wimpy, R-4s look much better

The R4 is the most popular tire for CUT's because most of the users have not the money or space for multiple tractors. If they did, they would almost always be better off with seperate tractors for the lawn with turfs and for off the lawn, with R1's. I can think of about zero cases where an R4 tire is better than an R1 off the lawn. the same thing is true on the lawn where I cant think of any case where an R4 would be better than turfs. An R4 is an industrial tire made for construction sites and operating on fairly hard surfaces. Thier use on CUT's is just a coincedence driven by financial and/or space limitations. For 90% of CUT users, especially those with one tractor, the R4 tire makes the most sence, which is why 90% of them are so-equipped. When a user gets too far off the lawn, he is destined for trouble like that poor fellow with the bush-hog in the picture. No matter what your tire, you got to know your limitations. When it comes to mud or snow, the bar is much lower for the R4 than the R1, in more ways than one. Pictures are worth more than words on sites like this and I guarantee we will not see a picture posted of a 4wd tractor with R1's stuck in mud that is not even up to the rim in depth.

I realize it was put forth in the spirit of levity and I responded in kind. But to be serious if only for a moment, I like the looks of both. One of the problems, if you would call it that is that many people get really skinny Ags. I am certainly no expert on tires, but I like a wide tire. I realize for some applications a narrow tire is essential.

I wish I could afford all three types of tires, Ags for my garden area, R4's for the woods, and the turfs for my grass and the snow.

But I had to choose what works best for my situation.

You got me there; sure does. Don't own this tractor, but sure wish I did, it is in our barn right now.

Ooooh(sp?). Drool, drool, drool.

Since this is a tire thread, maybe you can answer a question for me. I notice that the tread is different between the main tires and the duels. Is this just a manufacturer thing or is there a purpose for the different spacing of the lugs/bars?

BTW, my duels are currenly just sitting there. I still need to get the proper bolts for mounting them.:(
