Tires Diff between R1 and R4 tires?

   / Diff between R1 and R4 tires? #91
On my third tractor. Two 670 JD one with turf one with R1. Both had their place. Now I have R4 on my B2630. They all have their place but for all around the R4 is a good compromise. Loaded tires with blower on the back gives me enough traction for winter. Having said that our winters are colder making traction a little better.

Personally, I like the look of Ags better than R4's........But what do I know..........I gots Turfs:laughing:

I guess that is as close as you can get to an unbiased opinion...maybe in this case an unradial opinion....:confused2:

Short & Fat R-1's.....I like!! Are they mounted on original R-4 rims? They seem nice and wide.

somebody hit it on the head about the looks. If the ag's that were the other option on my tractor would have looked as good as those on JD's tractor, I would have got them. But the ones that were standard looked anemic compared to the r4 option. but I like the wider r1's.

Got that right Doall, had they had AG R1's as wide as the R4's, I would have gone R1s.

Today, I'd swap my R4s for R1s in a heart beat.

I do a fair amount of work in the woods and the tougher sidewalls of the R4 were the biggest selling point. I'd like my tires better if they had deeper treads, though. I read in another thread somewhere that R1's with more sidewall plies are available.

Most people don't realize the diversity of tread depth and design on Ag tires as OEM offered on most tractors are pretty limited.

Which tire thread is about the same as which came first....chicken or egg. Can be and obviously, will be argued till the end of time!

The names say it all, R1 or Agricultural and R4 or Industrial. Which sounds like it should be used on a farm, homestead, or in the woods?

Just to offer my two cents (since somehow our government has made my two cents worth less than two cents) once R4 tires loose the nice sharp edge they do really poorly in the dirt on my Case BH. Anythign with the slightest slope had to be dry or it would just sit and spin requiring me to use the FEL or BH to pull myself up. Once I replaced them it was day and night difference.

I've only had the brand new Ags on my 4240 so maybe when they are worn they wont perform as well but as for now I'm very impressed with them. I think R4 sell the best because it's an in between tire for those who are not sure what they are going to do with their tractor or will be doing a lot of loader work. After all if you ask a dealer which tire and he has R4 on the lot he's going to say "they sell the best".
