Difference between JD 5055D and JD 5055E?

Now I know the 5055E is a four wheel drive tractor and the 5055D is two wheel drive, but the list price difference is $6100 ($17000 vs $23100). Is there anything else different (read better) between the two tractors ... seems like a lot of money for the extra hardware used in four wheel drive, or is Deere just taking advantage of the incremental market demand for four wheel drive tractors?

If I'm not mistaken the 2wd has a 8x4 tranny, the 4wd has 9x3 snycronized. Both are real capable machines!

The rear lift capacity differs between the two models also. A suggestion: Go to the website TractorData.com -you will be able to compare more. Hope this helps.

I'm looking at the 5055e right now. According to the glossy brochure the "e" has 18.2 gpm hydraulic flow compared to 17.4 for the "d". The "e" has a slightly larger fuel tank, partially synchronized shifting between gears within a range, better rear lift capacity, longer wheelbase and finally, more weight.

Is all that worth the price difference? For me it is since I want MFWD. Otherwise I'm not sure.

I have been without a tractor (insert sad face here) for the last three years, but I owned a very small John Deere 4010 for a couple of years when we only had 4 acres. It had all of 21 hp and would get the job done if I had time and patience. We have since purchased 33 acres that I plan on farming, thus the need for a much bigger tractor.

How about you?

I am trading in a Kubota zero turn mower, the versatility of a tractor is reason. I did end up getting the 5055D as I don't think I need the MFWD for my uses and property, thanks for your help.
