Im new to tractors and not sure how to ask this but I know its a silly question. I've noticed some small compact tractors have more HP in a smaller frame then my kubota B1700.

My Kubota 17hp dwarfs some Iseki & Yanmar tractors i've parked next to that have 25-28hp.

Is there a reason as to why some of these 25hp tractors are smaller framed then my B1700?

Kubota is not really known as big frame tractor. Yes, they do pack a lot of punch in a small package. That is their specialty. But as far as big frames most of the major manufacturers of CUT tractors are considerably heavier than a Kubota of the same horsepower.

HP is only part of an equation of a tractor.

weight of the tractor plus traction. can be very important.

tractors are "multi use" tools, some times having some extra HP might be better than more weight and less HP. sometimes ya just need a bigger tractor all together. it all greatly depends on what you want to get done and what needs to get done. and what can get done.

EDIT: see below thread
Where do you draw the line between a garden tractor and a CUT
