Differences between L seris and M series

in looking at a lot full of tractors, sometimes you can't get a sense of scale with all that orange machinery around. go to the website and print out specs for the models you're looking at in L & M as well. including fel capacity I learned the expensive way starting w/ L trading back till I got the right one in M series). My lesson was that it's not just about HP.....the M series is more robust in about every way: frame size, construction, weight, tire size, etc. that all have a bearing on performance in addition to straight HP...but the B, L, & M models fit perfectly in the niches for which they are designed..If you had hoped for a mid mount, maybe look smaller than M..rule of thumb? study your needs (furute too) choose a model, then go one size up. you won't be sorry bb

I have an M7040.
The dealer I bought off of has a row of tractors, under a roof, from the BX through the MX. Brings the size difference into focus pretty well that way. You see that the front tire on the MX is the same as the rear on (IIRC) an L and that the front tire of the M40 series is nearly as tall as a B's.

What was the inquiry about a mid PTO? They do not come with one. What implement were you wanting to use?

Look for some posts by a guy named 4shorts. He has a tractor with a rear snowblower and a plow blade on the front adapted to the skidsteer QA. I believe his rear mounted blower works going forward. He used it to clear some parking lots. He lives in Canada I imagine they get some snow also. I guess you need to also figure out Cab versus no Cab. It would be good for blowing snow. Not so good for being in the woods I would assume.

Actually, after the Kubota Dealer Meeting last weekend, there will be two "M" models (MX4700HST & MX5100HST) coming that will be available with a HST transmission.

Erskine builds a blower that runs of the rear PTO of a tractor. The only draw back to it is that when on the tractor it is low and hangs out the back of the tractor a couple of foot. With it being built this way you could have trouble with it on irreglar terrain.

Depending on what else your needs are like with the logs as far as weight and the heights a L-series might do fine for you.

Might be able to fit a hydraulic powered blower up front. Skid steer style.

Although, you might need a PTO pump to get the GPM's.

The Kubota dealer around here says that the M series are designated as "agriculture" tractors and are exempt from some of the silly California requirements.

The L series and smaller are "hobby farm" tractors and are burdened by having to jump through more government hoops.

Even the big Mxx40 (e.g. M8540 and 9540) series have added turbos to meet Tier 4 emissions requirements. Only added about 1 hp  at a lot of expense.

I got a flier this week from Quick Attachments, they have a forward operating rear mounted snow blower. I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
