MF 3165
Hi,
Brand new to the list and also to what I believe to be a MF 3165. But I am puzzled. While waiting for my manuals to arrive I am learning everything I can from the material on the net. One thing I know I need to find is the differential lock lever and pedal. From all the sites I have searched I cannot find one that shows the parts that are on my tractor. I have attached three pictures in hopes that someone here could advise. Do I not have a 3165?
Thanks
Dean

I am not familiar with your particular machine, but the diff lock is often a small lever actuated with your left heel. Check out the area of your machine near where your L foot is when you are sitting.

I agree. Check the back of the operators station to the left of the seat.

Isn't that a picture he posted of the diff lock shaft guys? Missing pedal, but it appears to also be on the right side in his pictures, unless I am mistaken. Or is that something else?

Guys,
Nothing on the left side of the seat or elsewhere on the rear axle. I can work the piece up and down with a long screwdriver with causes the plunger to move in and out. Just puzzles me why I can't find this type of assembly in any of the part books/websites. It will be interesting to see what is shown in the manual when it arrives. I hope to test it tonite using the screwdriver and see if it will actually lock the differential. If it does I hope I can get it unlocked!!

If that is the axle lock, it should release by itself when there is no longer tension against it.

Another place I have seen the axle lock located is a button on the floor near the petals which when stepped on engages the lock.

Although I've never seen an axle lock located on the right side of the operators station, I won't say it can't be there. Typically the throttle is on the right so the axle lock is located where it can be controlled tith whe left foot (and sometimes hand) since it requires transmission/throttle pressure against it to stay engaged if the control mechanism is released.

Some of those had a big ugly handle you used to lock the diff. it was just a rod that you pushed by hand. I would go easy as the shaft may be sticky and get stuck in.

My guess is that the shaft that enters the diff housing needs to move into the housing to engage the lock. At least that is what happened when I tested with the screwdriver and that would correspond to pressing on a pedal or lever in the vacinity of your right heal.

All the ones i have seen on MF's have been on the RH side, never ever
seen one on the left;)

Found something very similar listed under MF 165 cast iron axle. The actuating lever/pedal is a bit different but the theory and operation is the same.
