Differential...when to use.....?

as noted above this is all pretty good advice, on other note:

the LOC engauge lever whichis pretty " L O N G " can be overly stressed by excess force while attempting to PUSH it into gear/engauge. it is not nessecarry to PUSH it much at all very little force when it aligns, as noted above it will not allign with out tons of luck unless one tire is spinning slowly and the other stationary or at least moving at different speeds...

I have NEEDED mine a few times, usually 4 wheel drive first unless I know I'll need the dif loc. I drive in & out of my creek with only 4 wheel drive and only use the dif loc if I get into trouble and usually always has been with a FEL load of gravel and in one of my 4 or 5 in/out creek spots. the soft bank and backing out after loading up the FEL for back filling...

once when I was high centered over a pile as high and as wide as the tractor it's self when the thing slide into the creek as the bank collapsed under the 284's weight. I was pushing multi-floral rose into creek for burning. got too close to an edge that had an old phone pole supporting it and the pole rolled out from under the tractor taking it with it. talk about pucker factor! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif anyhow had to actually shovel out some loose debris which was green weeds under the tires as it was litterly high centered over the pile catching on the rear 3pt tiller and the back hoe brackets... I had to use FEL, & 4 wheel drive with dif loc to get UP & Over the pile as I couldn't BACK out up a 4'+ steep bank when the tiller was already BOUND up in the bank, so had to PULL the tiller out of the bank while going UP & Over, that was about week 1 of opperation and I think I hadn't gotten 10 hrs on her yet!!!...

that bank cleaning was #1 project for my jinma284...

anyhow off subject I got...

I still use it when going UP hill so it don't rip into the grass so bad when it's wet/sloppy.

also if you get it BOUND UP so it does not diss-engauge, try driving in Revers slowly in a figure 8. this works on soft ground best. gass a bit then let slow down a bit while holding the lever up don't FORCE it as it is really only a free lift up to th3e stop and lets the SPRING push it out of place. if it don't pop out so the handel stays UP then you may have to Jack up one wheel and rotate it back & forth in a quick snapping action or worst case use a pry bar on the plates after removing the top cover of the creper gear cover. some one posted about this a long time ago, maybe Chip or Graham? was a good dealer who gave out the maintenance info redily to every one not just his customers... note this was before TOMMY came in he does same with the good info.

Thanks for passing along info like this dealer guys /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
