Backhoe Digging a 1,900 foot long, 2 foot deep trench with L3200!

I would definitely use the backhoe if it is all along side the driveway like in these pictures. Slow and easy going will make quick work of it. I enjoy my backhoe time that it would not be a question of trenching or backhoe for this job.

Howdy,

I would also put that cable in the trench right away. Since you are going along the shoulder of your driveway, and the distance is long, a quick rain will make a mess for you.

Second photos look great. At least your rocks are round river rock type. Mine here in Ark. are pointed and flat sided and usually stacked in piles upon one another. I might dig for several feet and not hit a rock then hit a pile that goes several feet down with basketball sized stacked up like bricks. Occassionally we hit one like the one in my avatar that takes a lot of digging to get out. We have one in the bottom of a pond that a 40,000 pound excavator couldnt remove so it was dug around to make it keep lowering till we got the depth needed and the huge rock is still 12 feet down now. I guess it will make good fish habitat. It is about the size of a Volkswagen beetle.

Wanted to update and show some pics on me heading down the mountain. I'm right at the bottom now and I am positive I made the right choice by digging it with the BH and not a ditch witch or excavator. A few "hairy" moments, but I'm still here and my KUBOTA is still running strong with no dings, scratches or malfunctions / broken parts! still have 700 feet to go! Thanks for all the advice....it came in handy. trench mtn 7.jpgtrench mtn 6.JPG

Holy Crap, that is a lot of digging! Great Job!! :drink:

I used my little BX25 with the 8" bucket to just dig a trench a couple hundred feet long and across a gravel driveway for my Exede Satellite Internet, direct bury, RG-6 cable.

Having a backhoe is so handy.

Looks like you are doing a great job. When you get it all dug, it will be time for several hours of back filling!
