Digital Cameras - Did I make the right choice?

Did anyone here ever look at the Fuji Finepix 2800? It only has 2.1 mega pixels, but it also has a 6x optical zoom. Noticed it the other day. Don't know much about digital cameras, seems that the features are close from one camera to the other. Just wondered if it would be OK to buy?

Bud,

Try dpreview.com and see if they completed one of their extensive reviews on that camera. I found the site to be really educational and useful in our cameral selection.

J...

You did extremely well! I'd buy a set of hi-cap nicads (1600/1700mah), another larger Smartmedia card (64-128MB), and not get in the habit of using the LCD display to conserve battery life...

Yes Sir... for $44. you got lots of value for your money... /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

IF YOU like the camera then it was a good choice. i got my first digital around the 1st of the year, i love it for the convenience of shooting and having instant photos to share, no film, no developing, but i still use my slr and video camera. now if i could afford one of the really fancy digitals, i would be a happy camper!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif just got back from my grandson's 1st birthday party, where the most difficult thing was switiching between, digital, slr, video, then back and forth. god it was fun/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

have not looked at that particular camera, but my camera is 2.1 and it take great pics. the only thing i would like better is a stronger optical zoom, the fugi with 6x optical is a fine feature. in my estimation digital zoom is worthless.

I looked in dpreview, and from what i've read, the fugi 2800 should be an OK camera, so I think I'll pick one up tomorrow. Don't think I'll be blowing anything up to big anyway. Now all I have to do is find out how to put a picture on the net.

If I can put a picture on the net anyone can. Name a new file for easy identification. Down load your camera and put your pictures in your new file. When you are on TBN type your message and continue. You will see a browse button below your message. Click the browse button and select your newly named file, then click on the picture you want to display. Thats it, continue, and you are done. I had to ask a teenager how to do it/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif.

John, I have come to hate rechargeable batteries, I prefer Duracell alkalines.
Zooms, I am not really a super duper photog like some of you guys, I purchased my Nikon F back in college and bought my second, an FE, during grad school and my third, the FM2 when away on an unexpected assignment and the need for a camera that did not require batteries to operate arose and still have a full range of shutter speeds. I took the photos for my thesis with my FE. Anyway, I have never understood the fascination with telephoto zooms. I would rather go wide and get close. My favorite lens is my Nikkor 50MM F1.2 and my Nikkor 24MM F2.8. I have several telephotos and zooms but rarely use them. If I had to choose a lens, only one lens, it would be my 24MM though a 28MM is perhaps a bit more useful. My fav films were Kodachrome ASA25 for print and Ectachrome 64 and 160 for field work. I also have dark room equipement, not used in years and used to like fooling around in the university dark room. Oh well, digital cameras fullfil our modern need for instant gratification I suppose and heck, they are a lot of fun. I am often taken aback though when I am told how they have superior resolution to 35MM, not so unless we are talking the disposable cameras from the check out lane at Wally World. There is even an anti-digital campain in music and I hope that this digital stuff will someday become obsolete when chemical memory or crystal memory technology allows more than --off and on--- but also in between, or put another way, there is a whole world between off and on, like maybe, just ask a woman ( I should not have said that but I did). I bought a Minolta Dimage-7. It takes about 10 shots then runs out of batteries. My boss has a MSEE and neither he nor I can figure out how to use it. If your Sony is "User Friendly" and doesn't eat batteries you are probaly ahead of V-P and me!
You probably paid a lot less also!

Dozernut,
You sure know how put it across. You did it so even I could understand. I tried it and it worked just fine. I just put two photos on.
Thanks much.
