The Nikon Coolpx 995 was a top contender in my choices of cameras. I chose the Sony DSC-S75 for the following reasons:

Price - The Nikon was $400 - $500 more than the Sony.

LCD - Nikon doesn't provide a coating on this so you can use it in bright light.

Twisting Lens - This is something I foresee as a future maintenace item.

Feel - Held one, liked the feel of the Sony better!

Did I mention PRICE!

wingnut there was a great nikon digital camera that was reviwed in pc photo, would i love to have that baby, but alas.$5,600.00 is a bit steep for me/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif i love my digital for the ease of taking pics and emailing them across country or poating on this forum, even get somegreat prints form it when i choose to print some. i take mine almost everywhere, never know when a great shot might appear. but i still love my MINOLTA 35MM. ALL CAMERAS are a tool and like all tools one is better for certain jobs than the other.

I have been "into" photography for many years, and own 7 nikons. When it came time for the digital plunge I ended up with a Fuji 6900z. It had the best combo of features (in my opinion):

1. 3.3 mp
2. 6x optical
3. SLR type lcd as well as bigger screen
4. All metal body
5. Relatively compact when off
6. LIGHT
7. PC socket for external flash
8. Good battery life

I have had it over a year and still really like it. I considered a Sony F707, but it is a bit awkward and REALLY heavy. The extra pixels may be nice, but I can make 8 x 10s that look great.

You should check out DP Review. It is a great site for comparing various models and excellent in-depth reviews.

Well I finally got it. They ended up sending me a demo unit./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif That really p#s#!& me off, /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif but it's going back. They said go ahead and use it til the new one comes in. No manual came with it so I'm learning the best I can. Here's one of my golden "Charlie".

I think you have made an excellent choice. I purchased one for my wife about a year ago. Over 2000 pictures later, I would have to say it was a success.

Battery life is excellent, only once can I remember that she was out of juice on a photo journey. She has since corrected that behaviour.

Memory sticks are cheap. I don't give a rats butt about the "non industry standard" line. The camera has more then enough ability to "down grade" pixel requirements for shots.
Buy another 64MB stick.

Flash attachments and use are excellent, the on board flash has more than enough ability and functions to work whatever requirement you might need for "ordinary use".

It is "kid proof", I cannot tell you the shiver of seeing my then 4 year old walking around, taking pictures. My wifes response.
"I let her do it, she takes great shots". Ya, glad I bought it local with the "covers everything" insurance policy. The children do take unique pictures.

Welcome to the world of digital, where everything can be fixed. No such thing as a bad shot. Now, your next purchase is of course a high quality low cost printer. Or a CD burner for
off computer storage.

Good luck
