I find it amazing that people just accept that wasting 24 minutes per hour of watching TV(to watch the commercials) is reasonable. (as opposed to dvr and skipping those commercials)

" It's FREE TV! "

It's free because of the commercials.

An update...

Got the dish and hardware today. Mounting and wiring done in about 30 min.

Used the level on my smartphone to get the elevation to match my house dish....21 degrees uphill. Same tilt that's on the house....72 degrees. Then it was just a matter of sweeping it around til I found signal. Took about 15 minutes to do all that and I have 90+ signal strength on everything.

Alot easier than what I was reading around online saying a $400-$500 meter was required.

I did try to use the compass....on two different smartphones. They seem to go haywire around the dish. Don't know if it's the dish.....power running through the coax, or what. But just doesn't work. I thin an old school compass probably wouldn't have had issues. I think the interference was electronic and not magnetic.

Question: This thing looks dangerous! Can I use it as a weapon?
Answer: The Phaser aspect didn't pass safety standards. the Stun mode and Kill mode would switch randomly. Several dolphins and dogs lost their lives during testing. It was finally decided to disable that feature until further testing would prove successful.

Since the Feds did us the favor of going digital for tv signals, I can no longer get any "over the air" stations and I have no choice but to go cable or satellite. Presently overpaying for cable and looking to go to one of the satellite providers.

I hear alot of people say this, but I would just about give my right arm to get cable back.

I currently have direct tv xtra package. One main received and three genie mini wireless and a 5th wired received due Monday. All with DVR capability. It cost me $118/month.

I am bundled with my DSL internet through century link. 7.5m internet is as fast as they can get me. My total monthly bill is $156 with whatever current promotions are going on. I expect it to go up In nov or December on the anniversary. Then I'll have to call and get another "promotion" again.

With TWC.....I had 30m internet with wifi...much faster than now. And if all intents and purposes....the same tv programming. I am sure the programming was actually different. Both had HD and something like 250 channels. But the 20 or 30 that I and the family watch......same.

My bill was always $100-$110. Granted I didn't have DVR, and only basic cable in the bedrooms as opposed to full service. But I'd gladly trade that for $50 /month less and 30-50mbps internet instead of my measly 7.5

If you get an over the air or OTA antenna you can still get all those channels free. It turns digital into analog for your TV as before. I'm sure you've heard of this.

Obama even gave free ones out when they first switched over a few years ago.

The picture for hd is uncompressed so good as or better than blu ray. It's amazing but you still have to turn the antenna to lock in the signals and point it at different starions but you can usually get 5-20 channels on them.

There are even computer cards that will do the recording for you similar to a dvr.

The tv antenna doesn't turn digital to analog, it just feeds your digital tuner in your tv with a signal, and the uncompressed signal really looks great on your tv! :)

You can really get creative and get an ethernet attached tuner that will make the reception available for some thing like a mythtv system that can, among other things, be used to record tv show of your choice to be played back at a later time.

I was a former DTV customer. Won't go into my rant as to why I am no more but: When I had DTV they aired more commercials per program than I have ever seen on over the air TV. Try taking 3-1/2 to 4 hours for a movie. About a third of them were for DTV Pay Per View UFC commercials aired at inappropriate times and channels. I didn't want my child looking at that stuff. I need to get that old dish out of my attic and haul it to the dump.

These days I watch ABC news, PBS, and Netflix. Judge Judy is a sure fire channel changer or hit the off button for me. What a waste of air!
