Direct TV problem?

>>Problem, I am getting pixelating (sp?) and freeze frames where all video stops. Sound sometimes goes on and video can catch up. I also get (on an intermittent basis) a searching for satellite message.<<
We had this problem until I aligned the dish. Now only have it during heavy rain. Your receiver should have a display for the signal strength. Have someone look at the display while you move the dish until you get the maximum signal. Mine is around 90%. Before alignment it was 35%.

Richard, Did you find out if it was the wire? Just asking.

I did once encounter another problem with DirecTV that took awhile to figure out. When they built the house, routed the coax, and stapled it in place, they punctured the insulation on the coax with a staple in one place./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif DirecTV won't work right if there's staple through the coax (in fact they told me it wouldn't work right if there's just a pinhole in the insulation).

I haven't done anything yet...had another situation arise..

Drove to Cleveland, Ohio for wedding. On return trip, stayed in Cincinnati. Upon leaving at 6:30 am Sunday morning, car died. (just try to get lots of help at that time of day!!)

Upshot, broke timing belt.
Seems there are two basic engineering philosophies..

1. Belt breaks, valves & pistons should NOT meet in any way such as to cause maxmial upper engine damage

2. If your so dumb as to buy a car engineered such that the valves & pistons DO meet upon timing belt breakage..you get what you deserve.

Seems, the Volvo 960 is engineered with the latter philosophy.

Car is still in Cincy getting worked on. Local dealer said if they fixed it (ALL new parts) would probably cost around $4,500. Since it's at independent shop and possibly the parts can be machined, I'm hoping to get out for fifty dollars less /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Actually, we don't have estimate in yet. Might just buy new car though doubt it.

Sorry to hear that. Volvos always got high marks from everyone I talked to. Didn't know that about the engine.

Yup...keep your belt's changed!!

Dealer told me the 240 (I think was the one) was engineered such that there was no interference with valves/pistons at hyperbolic speed when belt breaks, just the (drum roll please) ..960.

Car has been bulletproof. Met a VERY VERY nice Cincinnati cop that bailed me out. Pushed me ~2 miles to station then escorted me to rental car place. Would NOT let me sit in the "back" seat. Said that was for criminals! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Guess my baby face had him all confused!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
As I was returning from wedding, I also had some flowers I was bringing back to wife (hearty mums). At rental place, I leaned over & asked cop if this was "bad" neighborhood. He looked surprised and said no. I said, "Good", cause I don't want to be in a bad neighborhood carrying around these flowers..."

He just laughed..
I continued and asked him if HE wanted me to leave a plant with him..he said no.

I said, they woudln't be for HIM, but he could make the criminals that sit in the back of his car wear them on their lapel so that when he takes them to jail...../w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Get used to it. They have decided that the valve reliefs machined into the tops of pistons retain hydrocarbons so they are doing away with them. They have just about got the internal combustion engine running as clean as the design and principles involved will allow so they're fishing for every little improvement they can.

I'm fairly familiar with Cincinnatti. I have alot of family there. Visit every year. Most of it is safe(except where my family is, ha ha).

I grew up in Hamilton. I left home roughly January 1984 and this trip was my third time since leaving that I returned.

I was astounded how much things have changed in Hamilton/Fairfield. I guess that's the course of life though.

I've got Direct TV, because there's no cable in our area. I also have a problem with not getting the networks such as CBS and Fox. Our mailing address is not the town or even county we live in. It's a town about 10 miles south of us, and we're the last house in the postal district. When we first got it, we called to tell them we couldn't pick up Fox and CBS on the external antenna that attaches to the dish. They asked for our zip code, and then told us we're close enough to Albany to pick them up. I explained that we live 10 miles north of the zip code in a more mountainous area, and they kept saying that was impossible. I kept asking for each person's manager, and no one would believe us. I filled out forms to get a waiver to pick up Fox and CBS from the satelite, but after a year, and many phone call, no response. This is the most incompetent organization I've ever dealt with! I hope our area gets cable soon, so I can dump Direct TV!/w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif Luckily we don't watch much TV, but I would like the option of getting all the networks!
